I bought an X1900XT and cant use it until I get my Conroe system up and running. Its an MSI card...

And as you can see has the stock cooler fitted. Aparently the stock cooler is loud and gets canny hot. Now can anyone tell me how hot? Reason being is I have already bought a Zalman VF900-CU cooler and was wondering wether I should whap this on now?

Was gonna wait until I get everything setup so I can judge what difference the Zalman makes. What do people think?

I would just chuck it on to be honest after checking the card works. It's superior in terms of load temps and noise by a fair bit than the stock cooler as far as I'm aware.

Certainly was for me in the case of a 7900GTX.

Thanks guys, I'll whack it on when I get the motherboard / conroe etc after testing its ok. I do like zalman though, I remember when I put the v700-cu on my 6800GT it made a hell of a diff, and temps dropped abbout 20c and it was quiet.

just make sure your case has good airflow otherwise the zalman will increase you whole system temps

Thanks and noted. I just got a new Enermax liberty 620w modular psu, and its gonna help temps a good deal by the look of it, as I can attach only the cables I need. The airflow is good too, as I have an antec p180. :)

noise is not an issue uless youre a super freak for silence whilst gaming.
heat is a factor though, my x1900xt idles at about 57c and the hottest ive seen it go was 85c when the heatwave was upon us, the zalman with improve the gfx card temps but puch up the case temperature and chipset temps a bit. the stock cooler gets rid of the warm air out the case so it has got its bonuses

Thanks, suppose I could always buy one of these..

But arent these things dodgy? i seem to recall somone saying they were?

I was going to buy one of those but decided against it when someone told me they were crap.

On the other hand though some guy in the same thread said they were great...
