What sound card to get and should i ?

im thinking about getting a sound card however im only using a 2.1 speaker set up and creative fatalaty headphones, on the other hand im using rubbish onboard sound and little glitches are really starting to bother me.

which card would be best for me. (also is it going to obstruct my gts because im using a matx mobo-im think how close the fan is to the sound card , will it still bring air in properly)

so something simple like this:

this is a cheaper version but just as good,im using it atm and the quality is Fantastic

that one needs a pcie slot though which might be tight with the gts in?

hmm the cooler on the graphics card is pretty much blocking the slot where a pcie sound card can go. is the latter sound card i mentioned pcie too ? preferably i need pci.

For proper RCA Phono jack outputs and better quality dacs, I would suggest the the audiophile M-Audio card if they still sell it, as it now has vista drivers.

hey m8, we are both in very simular positions

i am using crappy onboard sound that is really quite bad, i have the same headset, no speakers, and my monitor is also on the way out so im saving for a new one.

hmm im still not sure about what to get. never had a sound card before . always used onboard and i really loved the realtek ac97 on my old p4 system. that was great. but this realtek hd thing is just rubbish, drivers are rubbish, crackling popping ..... grrr

If you think Realtek's drivers are bad try Creative's Vista drivers.

I say Xonar if you can, great card that.

have you tried updating the drivers?
don't touch creative go asus xonar
