I'm looking advice as to what sound card to get,i have edited 120 watt speakers on my PC but I'm looking to add 2 level 600 watt speakers and an amp,im looking to connect these to my PC as i play bass guitar and I'm looking to record me playing,i also play a lot of games and would like to use the four speakers,im looking a sound card that will do it well, ive a budget of around £160,any advice would be greatly appreciated

So you want to use your powered speakers in conjunction with unpowered speakers and an amp... why? Why don't you just get studio monitors? That's what they're for.

Get a pair of LSR 305s. Don't use a soundcard, they're all crap. Get a USB DAC. Audioquest Dragonfly is where it's at.

I think he's probably looking at PA speakers for use with his guitar, that's what I'm guessing at least, going by what was said about 600w. I'm also guessing that he's looking at those because he's thinking more watts is better, and you can't get that kind of power without going for PA system.

More watts definitely isn't better; unless it's for use outdoors or in a huge room or hall, such wattage power is really not needed. For use in an average sized room, much better to buy studio monitors. PA speakers are fine for volume in large or open areas, but the quality will be sorely lacking compared to good studio monitors.

Anyway, enough assuming and speculating.

I wouldn't get something like a Dragonfly, because that's output only. Great for music use, but not a good choice in this instance, as he will still need to have his guitar connected to the motherboard audio.

An audio interface would be better, something like a Focusrite iTrack Solo; just leave the other speakers connected to the motherboard for gaming duty.

I agree, an audio interface would be better if you are recording as they have lower latency than sound cards and as Marsman said, the Dragonfly has no recording facility at all.

Affordable interfaces are available from Focusrite, Behringer, Presonus, Alesis and many more.
