Okay, what with all the new things coming out soon, I don't know what to do, really.

I would like to get one of the Penryns coming January, I'm looking more at the Quads, but of course I'd have to wait a fair bit... So I was thinking of getting a simple Pentium Dual Core processor for now on a P35 motherboard then upgrade at a later date, might sell the processor once i get the Penryn, or just practise some overlocking :p

So I ask, hows this spec?

By all means, suggest cheaper alternatives, or better options for me, I have a very outdated machine, running a Celeron at (not even) 1.8GHz, Socket 478, 256MB of DDR133 memory, a 60GB IDE Drive, a functional DVDROM/CD-R Drive and... well, you get the general idea. Would it be okay to reuse the drive temporarily say? I'll give a rough estimate for a current budget, possibly about £400, £500 tops. I'll give an update on that matter soon. ;)
Not needing an OS, Keybaord, Mouse or speakers. I hope :p

Just a little note, I would play games a bit, a lot of media related tasks, music and video, both editting and watching/listening, I do a lot of multitasking, several windows open etc (I don't know how I do it on this rig). I jsut need my PC to do more for me!

That looks fine, I might suggest going for an E2160 since it is only a few pounds more and has a higher multiplier but other than that it looks good. The motherboard has one IDE channel so you could re-use both the hard drive and DVD-Rom on the same chain if you wanted. :)

semi-pro waster makes a very valid point on the E2160, it's about £6 more but worth it for just paying that little extra for the bonus 200mhz and a better starting point if you plan to overclock. The only other thing I would suggest is you can get the 512MB x1950 Pro for £8 more as it's on "This Week Only" for £78, which I would very much recommend. Other than that, spec looks great! :)

Agree with both of them points :) Get the 512 x1950... i got the 256 and regret it :(

Thanks for the replies guys!

Just wanted to say, what with the updates with the TWO offers, this could be a bargain!

I'm looking at the Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme just because it seems like a great deal, and could help with the future Quad purchase. And for the sake of having awesome cooling. I might wait around for a bit before I get a respectable Graphics Card, so I might just get something that'll run the PC for now, as opposed ot having no graphics, as the mobo has no onboard VGA. You guys think I'm maknig the right decisions here?

Also thinking of shopping around, mentioning no names obviously, but I really will be ground down on this budget, I'm depending on my parents for the money, which they don't mind, but you probably no what its like. (Well, I wont be in this situation for long once I start getting my own income soon ;) )

lol did u see my paint skillz? =P
