40Mb hard disk
1.44Mb Floppy
14" Monitor VGA 640 x 480

Tandy 1000HX.

Intel [email protected], 3 channel audio, with CGA 16 colours monitor, two floppy drives, and the 256kb RAM extension (so I could play Grand Prix and Ultima VI). Had a mouse and everything!

1987 seems a little early for that spec?

P2 300
ATI rage 3d card (AGP!):p
6.4gb HDD
Soundblaster sound card.

It was a Viglen. First upgrade was a CD/RW followed by a voodoo 3. :)

That game kicked so much ass when it came out. Everyone wanted a 486 (DX, not SX). Then Duke Nukem... Good times. I remember writing a tech demo based on the principle, or so I thought :)

First PC my parents bought for us kids:

Intel Pentium 1 166Mhz CPU
8MB RAM (man those were the days)
1.2GB HDD
Creative Soundblaster sound card
onboard GPU (couldn't remember make)
CD drive
15" CRT (later upgraded to 17" flat CRT)
Bundled with a ton of software including some Coral stuff and we bought Office 97
Windows 95

Bought in 1997. Cost about £1800 (including a printer and scanner. oh how they loved to just bundle anything and everything)

It was a Packard Bell and it was bought from "where in the world". At the time when we didn't know better :p

First PC I ever built myself in 1999:

AMD K6 500MHz
32MB (maybe even 64MB RAM)
6.4GB Quantum HDD (I remember when Windows didn't support anything above 2GB+ unless you formatted it in a certain way, right? lol)
Voodoo 3D card (those were epic in their days :D)
Creative Soundblaster card
17" CRT monitor
4x DVD drive (this cost me over £100 at the time!!)
400W PSU (this eventually spiked and died on me)
Windows 98

Cost me around £800 in total. Parts were bought from computer fairs or magazines over the phone. :)

I remember I used this mainly to play games (FIFA 98 and 99, Doom, Duke Nukem, Quake, et all). But then the PSU died on me. Man brings back fond memories I tell ya :)

About a year later I began to build another machine. It was one of the motherboards that had jumpers on so you could overclock your CPU. I think I had an AMD K6 600MHz which I managed to OC to 950MHz. Not bad for a rookie at the time lol :p

My first upgrade was £70 for another 1Mb of ram needed to run windows 3 a grand total of 2Mb. It did run quite fast as I remember at the time although all the apps were Dos based for word processing it was wordperfect 5.1 and Lotus 123 for spreadsheets.

My first home computer was an Amiga A500, then i got a A600, but not counting Amigas:

When I was 5 I got my first pre-built PC, spec:

Purchased: 1995
Model: Apricot MS545
CPU: Pentium 2 333Mhz
RAM: 8MB PC133, upped it to 16MB
GPU: Creative Labs 2MB
HDD: 3.5GB
Monitor: 15" CTX
OS: Windows 95

My first home made pc was:

Built: 2001
CPU: AMD Duron 800Mhz
RAM: 128MB
GPU: 3DFX Voodoo3 2000
HDD: 40GB
Sound: Onboard
Monitor: 17" CRT Packard Bell monitor
OS: Windows ME(sadly)

I think that might be the same computer my parents got us :). We got a microwave instead of a scanner though :p.

I remember we upgraded it to 24Mb of ram to play some independence day game too :). Good times!

As for my first computer, it was:

pentium 4 2Ghz
256Mb ram (later upgraded to 512Mb)
40gb hdd
geforce 4 mx (later upgraded to the geforce 4 ti)
windows XP

Costing around £600.

Fantastic machine :), it all still works to this day. Up until last year it was my parents main computer!

What spec was your very first PC and if you can remember what year and price/s was it ??

Mine was

intel 200mhz@233mhz mmx CPU
about 32mb ram
2MB ati rage II display card
voodoo1 4mb 3D card
3200MB harddrive (if i remember right)
Really crappy beige case with built in PSU
17" Iiyama Vision Master Pro Diamondtron monitor
Creative 4.1 speaker system

Can't remember which soundcard i had

Cost me over £1000....year was about 1987

You sure that was 1987? Seems quite a high spec machine for '87, esp to have a Rage II and Voodoo1 plus 32mb ram

Can't remember when exactly but the first PC I had was a Packard Bell purchased by my parents for when I started college. The specification was:

Pentium p60
8 Mb RAM
420 Mb hard disk
2x CD-ROM
1 Mb on-board VGA
Soundblaster 16 PCI audio
14" CRT monitor
Zoltrix 14.4kbps external modem
Windows 3.1

Main gripe with it was that about a week after purchase Intel changed the voltages on the motherboards so I couldn't upgrade the processor at any point, though otherwise it was a very reliable machine and lasted me about five years and various other upgrades until I started work and bought parts from OcUK.
