What speed can I expect out of a E6300?

Resurrecting this old thread because my other one seems to have gone down like a lead balloon :D

Big Wayne - am I right in thinking I can just copy your CPUZ results? I.e. Multiplier = 7 Bus Speed = 485?

main extra things to consider are cpu voltage, memory voltage, memory timings, memory divider, switch off speed stepping etc so it doesnt wind the voltages down if its not being used.

don't trust the auto settings, set things manually in the bios.

no reason, as long as the chip can take it you shouldn't be able to get upto big waynes speed with the p45 mobo and pc8500 memory. just need to keep an eye on the temps/voltages.

running mine at 3.5ghz on a gigabyte ep45 ds3, after previously being at 3.2 on my old 965 gigabyte ds3p.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I did read through the overclocking sticky, and have tried a three or four times to OC the chip, but it's just crashed on boot up so far.

I'm going to have to do some more reading, I was hoping to cheat by nicking somebody elses settings :o I don't really fancy running Prime95 for 24 hours every time I get a 100MHz overclock, but I guess you have to! I think I'll have to wait until I've finished all my work and then have a go without rushing it :)

mrxplosion - I've got the Asus P5Q Pro MoBo

Thanks again!

I would up the FSB 10Mhz at a time and run prime for 10-15 mins, then up it more if its ok and increase vcore a bit when needed for stability.

Have you ever ran memtest to check your memory is ok at stock?

Mine has done 3.4Ghz on air cooling (silent - Tuniq tower) for the last 18 months without batting an eyelid. This includes some pretty heavy duty climate modelling. Temps this second are 42/43 deg C, the highest I've ever seen under orthos on a hot day was 63 deg C.

I still see no point in upgrading it! Got to be one of the best £/performance CPU's ever made I reckon...

+1 on this

Take your time and wind her up slowly. Only change one setting at a time, this way you can work out where you are going wrong and what changes lead to stability/instability. Keep a piece of paper handy and log what you do.

By far the best way to learn is just to try it :)

Damn some nice overclocks on the E6300 here, Mine is still in virgin state never been overclocked, Damn crappy asrock board & high temps haha.
