What speed DDR2 for a Presler

Friend of mine recently bought a 3.46ghz extreme edition presler and the P4 equivalent of the Asus A8N32sli. The mobo specs says it supports 4300 and 5300 DDR2, but there is 5400, 6400 and even 8000 ddr2 out now. I know nothing about DDR2 or P4 mobos, but if he bought the 8000 stuff and assuming his bios supported it, would he not be able to run it at 1000mhz, basically the same as what his Preslers front bus will run at. Or would he better off getiing a decent 1gig 6400 kit, like the Corsair UL stuff sold on OcUK which runs at much tighter timings then normal ddr 2. But if he did that, would that not mean the front bus of this presler would have to run at a lower speed (667 - same as memroy), unless he wanted to try and overclock the memory to hit 1000mhz. Or are there dividers on P4 mobos as well, like on A64. Confused.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Lots to chew on there. I actually had a 9500 on my FX57 and found it pretty decent. At 3.1ghz my cpu idles around 34-36 and never went over 50 under load. Not sure if it will be good enough for the Presler though. I suppose it depends on the airflow of the case as you say. I think he has an Antec P150. Maybe a bit restrictive ?
