Hi currently on virgin 350 and now have fttp at my address, could anyone tell me what speed I should go for with fttp, son games and I stream and maybe download files

Whatever you can get you need MOAR!!!!!

Honestly, really only you can say. I want higher overall speeds as I use site to site VPNs, but honestly I am fine on 1Gbps.

Moving from cable to full fibre alone will help in online gaming due to lower latencies. Speeds don't matter much for that.

Is the FTTP from VM as well or another provider? Some networks like Openreach will have much lower upload speeds compared to download, while most altnets are symmetrical. Streaming prefers good upload speeds and last I checked with VM 350 at least, upload was limited to ~35mb odd. Either way it will still be more than enough when streaming to Twitch/YT/etc.

Cant answer your question really.

50Mbit is enough to game and stream as an example.....Even Netlfix 4K HDR content only needs 25Mbit/sec

Any extra speed just speeds up large file downloads.

With every game update now counted in gigabytes, i would say difference in price on FTTP between 350 and 1000 is not enough to justify spending loads more time on downloads..
Also - you will have (not you may have, you definitely WILL have) more and more devices connected to it...

350 is plenty for streaming and downloads already. Only go faster if its the same price or cheap OR if you want to download files faster OR if you need higher upload speeds because you do stream hosting on twitch etc

fttp gives you lower latency without even needing to change speed, so there's that

IIRC each netflix 4k stream is using around 25 at once; so with 350 you could have four people streaming netflix 4k at the same time and still have 250 left for your downloads and games etc. And games don't need much, you can even limit your son's speed to say 50, which is plenty for gaming, limit all the TVs using netflix/youtube to 25 each and then you have 200+ for your downloads all to yourself

If your son want's to be able to play as soon as possible if a game needs an update or after installing a new one and your file downloads are large then the faster the better. You can plug your typical download sizes into a Download Time Calculator to get a feel of how much waiting around there will be or just go with the fastest package your happy paying for and upgrade/downgrade it as needed.

350 is limiting abilities in those pointed out matters, it all boils down to cost difference.
If it's single pounds more - go fast, if difference in money is a issue - stay on 350
