What speed is my RAM??

I've been ticking along thinking that my RAM was the 1066 sort due to the fact that its the OCZ stuff in my sig.

Trouble is my mobo (also in my sig.) keeps telling me its 800MHz and CPU-Z also says its 800!?!?!?

I've had a look on the sticks themselves and they do say they are the 8500 speed sticks so shouldnt they run at the full 1066 that my mobo supports??

Thanks guys.....

I suspect you need to adjust the speed in the BIOS via the memory multiplier or ratio.

I assume CPU-Z is showing 400mhz speed in the memory tab - though I ask as people forget to double the speed cpu-z shows :)

Your ram is running at the stock speed of your motherboard. That is correct and how it should be from a default settings point of view. If you wish to run your ram at the specified ram settings you will need to make some kind of bios adjustments.

If you are unsure of how to do so just post here and many members will be more than willing to offer assistance. It is not that complicated. :)

CPU-Z is showing 400 and the setting in the motherboard (which according to its box, does support the 1066 speed) is set to default which is picking up 800!?!?!
I can alter the multiplier but I cant get it to exactly 1066 - surely this means its the 800 MHz stuff? (despite the sticker on the RAM saying its the 8500 stuff!)

Most 1066 mhz ram is in fact highly overclocked 800mhz stuff, that just clocks a lot higher then normal, so that is why they get sold as 1066 mhz ram, as they will run at that speed.

True 1066 mhz memory is out there but is/was abit more costly, and was'nt widley available as at the time not many motherboards supported them.

The motherboard will be going by the SPD info on the memory, and defaulting it to 800mhz and timings.

Check the SPD info required for running it at 1066 or as close to and match the volts and timings accordingly.

Were system memory multplier is on Auto, you need to manually adjust this, hopefully the setting below will increase, also you need to increase the memory voltage by increasing by .3v ~ (DDR2 Overvolatge control.)

It tends to be normal to manually adjust the settnigs, I have needed to this on most of my systems.

Seems a bit weird to have to manually tinker with it - surely if you buy RAM that will run at 1066 and you have a motherboard that supports 1066 - the "default" setting should run it at 1066!?!?!?

I'm wondering if the RAM is mis-labelled???

I have the same memory though it was £35 not £90 at the time!

If I recall correctly the memory modules don't conform to JEDEC specs at 1066 or there was no standard at the time.

Basically as RJC says they require 2.1V rather than the default 1.8V to run at 1066 so you have to do it manually. I believe all DDR2 1066 is the same.

Yeah, I think I paid around £40 for it at the time too - how the prices have changed eh?!?

Oh well, as long as I've not been done out of the proper speed stuff I'm not too fussed!!

Thanks for all the replies guys, much appreciated...

Here are my settings. They are slightly different to yours as I have an AMD Phenom II.

Everything is default apart from adjusting the Memory Clock and DDR2 Voltage Control

To me shame it looks like I never set the correct timings! They support CL 5-6-6-18(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS) @ 1066 as can be seen on the OCZ product page.

Don't think I can be bothered to adjust them after all this time. Can think of far more fun things than running stability tests :)
