What speed RAM for a Q6600?

I'm not going to be overclocking or anything, just want to know what the best speed RAM is for a Q6600? I thought it was PC8500, but i've been seeing people recommend PC6400 for the Q6600's so i'm a bit confused!

Can anyone recommend me some 4gb kits? As I say not after overclocking or anything at all. Just keeping it standard.
 
have a look at the pc6400 corsair kits, no real need for 8500 cos the 6400 will get the q6600 overclocked to around 3.6ghz (400x9) and the q6600s arnt very likely to go above that.

sorry for butting in,
PC6400 would THIS OCZ vista gold series be ok and allow a good overclock?, i'm planning on getting that same processor
 
I don't want to overclock really so RAM that overclocks well is irrelevant for me, are there any other kits that are just as fast for cheaper?
 
Q6600 is 1066Mhz and PC2-8500 is 1066Mhz.

If you board supports both the CPU and RAM at 1066, then I'd go with PC2-8500.
Otherwise if your board supports only 800 RAM I'd not bother going above PC2-6400.
 
If you are not going to be overclocking the Q6600, especially at high levels, why waste money on expensive PC-8500 RAM?

PC-6400 works perfectly fine as standard, and I have 8GBs of this RAM, the Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB) when it was on offer and cheaper. I'm running it with the Q6600 as well, though overclocked to 3.2Ghz.

Course, now that DDR2 prices have slightly gone up, it seems that even the cheaper 4GB PC-8500 RAM is like £3 more than the cheaper PC-6400 so its all moot point.

That Kingston PC-8500 RAM is pretty good, but shame its out of stock now, along with the others.

Perhaps wait a while until more get back in stock and then see what the prices will be?
 
8500 makes a big difference to a 3d mark score with the q6600 go for this as i know it made a big difference TWIN2x4096-8500C5DF
