What speed should I have the cpu fan going at?

I have a freezer pro cooler but cos my e8400 is screwing up my temps, I have to set the max speed level and at to moment I have it running at 1500rpm. Oh yeh I have the abit ip35 pro motherboard.

As fast as you need it to go to keep the temps down tbh, its always a stand off between temps and noise, otherwise we'd all be running deltas

I'd be very surprised if it needs to run that high. On my quad Q6600 at 3.0Ghz with 1.38v in the BIOS, the fan runs at 1,100 rpm when the CPU is under full load, and core temps 60C or less. Your CPU will be generating a lot less heat than mine. Depending on case cooling etc, you should not need more than 1,000rpm max. Monitor your temps and you'll see what a good value is

Its reading 127c in the bios cos of the e8400,so its always using the high speed setting. The high speed is setting is at 100% of the rpm of the fan, so thats about 3000rpm or whatever the max speed is for the freezer pros. So ive knocked it down to 65% so now the fan is at 1500rpm. Makes sense??? But is 1500rpm fast enough when the cpu is at full load, Plus the cpu is oc to 3.6.

Edit: Sorry I miss read your messege. So I could run the cpu fan even lower then 1500rpm? I dont think the max fan speed setting will go any lower then 60% of the fans max speed.

OK, you hadn't mentioned the 3.6 overclock. Still, as long as you're not heavily over-volted and your case cooling is OK, 1,500 rpm should be enough
