hi,

got a mate connected up to the o2 home service, started out running at 7-8mb but all of a sudden its dropped to 1.5mb, and they have said that it will only run at 1.5mb until o2 equipment is moved to his exchange.

can't understand how they can say that cos i'm running betwen 1.9/2mb, just after checking on what speed other people have.

cheers......

What anyone else gets is irrelevant because it'll depend on how good the line is.
Run the BT Speedtester and see what the IP profile is set to, and dig out the sync rate, SNR margin and attenuation from the O2 box.

you miss understand the reason for the question, as i understand it o2 are saying my m8 can only get 1.5mb because hes on the home service and not o2's equipment, not the fact that his line will only support 1.5mb.

cheers yam.

No I don't - O2 Home Access is good to 8Mbps. As I said, if he's only getting 1.5Mbps it's got nothing to do with O2, and everything to do with how good his line is.

Yamahahahahaha isn't on O2's Home Access.

In which case they'll just be quoting what the estimated line speed he can get with BTs equipment.

There's probably just miscommunication between your mate and O2's CS. I've not heard of the Access package being capped at that speed, it should just be up to 8 meg as it's plain old ADSL.

edit:

beaten to it.
