Ok i am kinda new to all this as i havnt really yet built my computer i am aware of what things i need etc but i dont know what motherboard is compatible with the processor out of my hp slimline as i want to built a computer with the parts i currently have in my slimline so i can customise it and have a cool l.e.d tower. I know maybee well most certainly the specs of this computer are pretty naff but i was thinking of building a computer using these parts in a standard atx case instead of the motherboard in my slimline wich is a itx mini motherboard. i want to have a standard size tower with the components from ths slimline for customisation.

processor says its amd2 socket does that mean any motherboard that says its amd2 compatible will work with the cpu ?

I JUST WANT A STANDARD ATX

I have currently got 4gb of ram and i have installed a nvidea graphics card into the pci express slot so i was thinking just a tower case and a motherboard at a reasonable price then surely i can just build it from what parts/cables i have allready got RIGHT ? .

any help/ links to what i would need ..... will be really aprecciated thanks

IAN .

Well I can't follow that link so I can't tell which processor you have. If it says AM2 then an AM2/2+ Motherboard should work fine. OCUK doesn't seem to have any ATX sized ones in stock; only MicroATX.

Here's a link to OCUK's AM2+ range: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=1903&subid=1483

Hope that helps.

EDIT: BTW Most ATX cases also support MicroATX sized Motherboards. Though check first.

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a replacement operating system.

If the original PC has any residual value it could make more sense to sell it and start again from scratch.

Yeah. It may actually be more cost effective to sell your existing stuff and buy (at least) new MoBo, CPU, RAM. DDR3 RAM is quite cheap compared to older models, and it means you may not need to upgrade again later down the line.

Why not look at the OCUK Overclocked bundles, and see what you think. Also they are guaranteed to work together.

It's up to you and your budget though.

Thankyou

so if i buy a overclocked bundle will all my compnents for example diskdrive hard drive graphics card wireless card all work ??? with new motherboard

Well I mean the RAM, CPU, and MoBo will work together (and will be overclocked). Depends on your other parts.

If your Hard Drive and Disk drives are SATA connected then no trouble. I'm not sure how well the Motherboard handles certain IDE drives (though I'm sure most can). If your Wireless card is PCI then it should work, and if your Graphics card is PCIe then it will work.

is there not a tower that would just fit everything i allready have into ?? . For example this one ? it says it is compatible with Mini-ITX

but then would all my compnents work/fit ?

If your MoBo is Mini-ITX then it should, yes. Only Issue I could imagine is if your last case was small you could have an issue with the power supply's cables reaching in a larger case. Again I haven't seen your system so I couldn't tell.

ohhh thankyou thats brilliant so what reasonably priced mobo would you suggest

AHH! Ignore my last post then.

I may be able to get an AMD build cheaper. Or if I used an earlier generation Intel core.

As much as I hate having to repeat myself...

Assuming you want to run Windows, and that your current version is oem, you're going to have to buy another copy for the new machine.
