Back in 2010 I bought a "Primo Neo Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz @ 3.60GHz Dual Core DDR3 System" From overclockers. Cost me £410 at the time so wasn't exactly a high end system even back then.

It has been a really good computer, but I'm finding it getting slower and slower with multiple programs running at once it comes to a stand still. I mainly do a lot of web browsing, streaming videos, etc. Multiple tabs, office software (home business), etc. But I also do a few games but nothing taxing.

I've tried adding more ram but it doesn't like it (load of beep codes on start up?) so I'm stuck with 4gb. I've removed all bloatware and background junk I don't need but no luck.

Basically I think it is time for an upgrade / replacement?

I have no idea what system to buy. I have a laptop with windows 8 which I cannot stand, even with something like start8 I don't find it usable. I have an Imac sitting here that I never used as I can't get used it it.

Can I get anything better for £600 ? Is it possible to get something new with windows 7 on it?

Do you know the full system spec?

An SSD could potentially be an obvious choice for a quick speed upgrade, depends if you definitely want to spend the £600 or if the current system does almost everything you want still.

I doubt you'd be able to get an off the shelf with Windows 7 still. You could probably ask OcUK or someone local to do it for you, or if you're building yourself then you can obviously put whatever you want.

+1 for a SSD. A fresh install of Windows 7 can improve performance. Also consider claiming your free upgrade to Windows 10. It's quite a bit more responsive than 7, boots faster too. The Start Menu is an improvement on 8.1 but still not great. Classic Shell fixes that though.

Ideally you do need to find out what makes up your PC from the case/PSU to the drives etc.

Then a suitable upgrade that fits with everything can be suggested.
