Hey all!

I'm years deep into a journey I never thought i'd get so obsessed with :o

I'm searching for my "perfect" t-shirt!

What i'm after:
  1. The perfect fit
    • I'm tall and broad so like a longer fit as tend to find a lot of tshirts end level/above the belt line.
    • Slimmer around the waistline but with room for a deep chest and big shoulders
    • Fitted around the bicep with just the right length to sit around the middle of the upper arm
    • Heavier weight material rather than the typical paper thin, see through white tshirts you tend to get from everywhere these days.
  2. Colours
    • A wide selection of neutral, plain colours. White, blues, olives, black etc etc.
  3. WASHABILITY!
    • I never tumble dry my clothes, and wash them at 30 degrees, but so many tshirts last one or two washes before they lose their shape, either shrinking vertically or becoming too tight around the chest.
  4. Price
    • I don't mind spending a bit, in my mind £15-£30, with the upper end being for something that ticks all the boxes and lasts a long time.
So, I turn to the one place that exists where a wide variety of males all sit around and fling mud at each other, with various budgets, shapes, sizes and tastes, OcUK, to help me on this quest!

I used to wear Banana Republic tshirts. But since the exited the UK I now just buy Uniqlo tshirts when they are on offer. However I recently bought some John Lewis own brand tshirts and they are really good. But tshirts are one of those things I don't want to spend a lot of money on. They always look tired after a while so I'd rather buy mid range (not cheapest) and replace them frequently.

I've eyed uniqlo a lot in the past but have yet to pull the trigger!

No stores near me but will pop into one in a few weekends when i'm in London :)

I just don't really see where your money is going on a t-shirt. A £5 plain white one is fine.

I'll spend decent money on a jumper though :p

My life is spent in t-shirts, I wear them for work and probably 99% of the time i'm wearing clothes.

I also like to look my best whenever I step out the house so for me a well fitted tshirt is worth paying the extra money for.

I'm also a weird shape so more average shaped guys might find any old tshirt will fit, but not for me unfortunately :(

Waist trainer, tubby

Ouch, don't make me run my belly is full of chocolate! :(

Marks and Spencer Pure Cotton Crew Neck T-Shirt in long fit are perfect for me. Currently £8!

Will give these a whirl and report back!

Anything cheap.

If I want to look smart I wear a shirt, t-shirts are never 'smart' no matter how well made.

Smart ≠ looking and feeling good. I wouldn't wear a tshirt to a wedding and I wouldn't wear a shirt to pop into town for a pint on a Sunday afternoon with a friend.

I'm a big fan of the Uni-qlo shirts, would say that they make up the bulk of my T-shirts. The Supima cotton ones are very nice.

Front runners, in London next weekend so will check out their Battersea store!

Levi's for me. They fit me well and seem to wash well even at 30. They're the only t-shirt I've found that I'm comfortable wearing out and about without needing something on top to look decent (shirt, jumper, etc).

Levis outlet not far from me, will check them out at some point but always seem very heavy on the levis branding and prefer just a plain solid colour so that they're easier to match with an overshirt or similar.

For the price these are great. As good as uniqlo/M&S etc

All of the colours I like are out of stock in XL, will keep an eye on them though!

Asos or M&M direct do t-shirt pack all in different colours, I've found the all saints ones the best quality and fit, don't loose their shape or get discoloured.
A slightly cheaper option is the Jack & Jones packs also decent quality but a bit on the thin side where material thickness is concerned.

Used to live off the Asos multipacks until I realised they were prime culprits for shrinking after a few washes. They also dipped in quality massively a few years ago and went from the heavier weight to very light and almost see through :(

Actually tell a lie, my go to tees are Hollister and All Saints. They've lasted an absolute age although I've only recently started tumble drying.

Really wanted to like All Saints but they're so thin it's hilarious, especially in the lighter colours! May as well just cut holes so everyone could see my nipples instead of just teasing them :p

Right, gotya.

Not sure why I posted that tbh, it's been one of those days. My go to used to be Firetrap and Diesel but it's been a long time since I found they had any quality.

Haha all good, we all know those days where OcUK seems like a perfect place to vent frustration, I have to contain myself and delete half written posts regularly :p

Just LOL if you're not comme des garcons every day of the week.

e: noobs.

Have 30-45 of these in my wardrobe but they're just not very on trend at the moment, ya feel me?

Have you tried uniqlo airism t-shirt? Or their standard cotton ones?

I have the opposite problem, in that I'm tall but have narrow shoulders, and the uniqlo stuff is too broad for me. A lot of broader people I know swear by them.

Seems to be the front runner at the moment, when I grab some I shall report back!

Matalan t-shirts are my favourite. They are thick but stretchy so they fit my slim fit wide shouldered body..

The ones in particular are their own brand, look like a Fred Perry ripoff logo.
The Lincoln Plain ones on this page..

Don't let the cheap price put you off thinking they'll just go baggy, as they seems to be pretty good

I've always had an affinity for Matalan for some reason, their clothes aren't the greatest quality but when you factor in the price they certainly get the job done! Will check them out!

Ryderwear, they do these heavier material big t-shirt, if you have bigger chest shoulders arms, gym built type. On thing I wear that doesn't look like I'm trying to stretch fit something. Very long so easily hang over the belt line., lots sales usually on and a very rewarding loyalty points system

On the list, pretty darn expensive but will give one a try! Doing a order this weekend of the recommendations from here so shall report back!

Nothing beats a comfortable value t shirt from these guys.

Do they do them with zero shoulder supports? When gucci do a male crop top i'm all in!

I'm interested in finding long t-shirts, as in long relative to their overall size. I have unusually short legs for my overall height (under 40%, I think most men are about 45%) or in other words, I have a long torso. It's really annoying having t-shirts/polos that show off my midriff if I raise my arms in the air.

To be clear I am not particularly broad/muscular, so I don't need something designed for gym freaks etc, I just need like a standard fit t-shirt of say L size that's at least 2 inches longer than normal. I'm over 5'10" but 28" legs that you'd normally expect to find on someone around 5'8". I tend to buy XL shirts just for a bit more length, but then they are too baggy and don't fit my upper body that well.

Anyone know where you can get stuff like this?

This is what I struggle with too actually! I'm 6'3" but wear a 32" leg, but can get away with a 30" believe it or not. Combine that with a 34" waist but something stupid like a 48" chest (last time I tried on a suit) makes finding clothes that fit right a challenge. I've been told i'm built like a gorilla multiple times

Pro club heavyweight are the best I’ve found while retaining good value, there are better quality available but more than I’d want to spend on t shirts

Like the look of these, will get some ordered!

Much respect to @Megahurtz400 for asking a question and replying to each person. You must be an old timer forum user where politeness got you a long way.

Always find when you actually interact with a thread you create it gathers more momentum and you get a higher number of higher quality replies! Although I'm also very guilty of the old ask and run threads :p

As he says though, he has to delete half his posts. Some of us could learn from such foresight. :D

I shall be holding a "Constraint Workshop" on Discord in a few weeks, usually £1700 but can do an OcUK dicount of £99 with the code "RTX40704ME"

Tshirt ordered from:
Pro Club Heavyweight
Ryderwear
Uniqlo
Hopefully arriving before the weekend so I shall report back, maybe with pictures if I can get my lighting right :D

I also have some plain ones £5 from Matalan or Primark if I need to be a bit respectable.

Here in my office at the hospital I'm wearing a t-shirt that says "Money can't buy you happiness but buying a guitar is the next best thing"

All power to you, but I can't stand band or slogan t-shirts myself.

Even subtle company branding just makes me feel like an advert so I try to dress as "plainly" as possible, a small chest logo I can deal with but a full width brand or band, not for my unfortunately :(
Meant to say look in the Outlet part, jsut a slightly different logo deign and colours, but exact same material and fitting.

Had a scan but as I've mentioned above, branding is a bit too loud for me sadly.

Remember nips on show may fall foul of forum moderation. :p

The reason i'm after a heavy weight shirt is due to my powerful nipples, even on a warm day they're desperate to make an appearance

I am 46” chest with 32” waist, not bulky but athletic build and I have to mostly resort to Tailored Athlete for my shirts as most stuff on the high street just doesn’t fit properly. Maybe the OP can try there?

Bit too "athletic" and muscle fit for daily wear for me, but will certainly take a look for gymwear, when I can be bothered to get back into said gym :o

At 64 I should grow up :)
Funnily enough I never allow any of my band members to wear band t-shirts and that's because I don't want people shouting for Slayer when we're doing Blondie type covers.

I work in an out of the way office in an attic dealing with Solicitors & Clinicians either on the phone or in email so I can wear what I want although my colleague hinted this morning that it wasn't shorts weather now.

Never grow up!

Slayer style covers of blondie songs could be an unexplored avenue though, Call Me could work maybe?

Element stuff is good but like the Dickies rear logo Tees, your back becomes a sun spot lol. Near 3rd degree burns wearing one of my element rear logo tees this summer just gone.

Have a vans tshirt like this with a graphic printed on the front.

Wore it out for a walk in the summer and had to turn around after 10 mins as I thought I was getting third degree burns underneath it!

Super dry can be a good fit and good for the low price.

Haven't bought anything Superdry in many many years, but always found they were very small in sizing, much like Topman used to be. I remember getting an XL topman hoody back when I was 17/18 and it finished halfway down my forearm and came up to about my belly button. Never again

Review #1!

  1. The perfect fit: 3.5/10
    • This is a very nice t-shirt, and I can see why the price is what it is. The fit is a bit too "muscle fit" for an everyday t-shirt for me, however, it does have plenty of room in the chest while being plenty slim enough in the body.
Potentially a bit too slim, I unfortunately don't have the body of an Adonis like their models, and as the body is on the slimmer/skinnier side, I can feel it gripping my little gut a bit.

Saying that, it fits very well and if I was looking for a gym specific shirt i'd be stocking up on these.

The material is thinner than I was looking for for an everyday t-shirt, but feels like in the gym it would be very cooling and would wick sweat away well. However, due to this thinness, if you have Power Nipples™ like myslef, not only are the pointies going to be on show but also the round base of the nip too. I wouldn't care in the gym, but stood in line at a coffee shop it could be a bit affronting
  2. Colours
    • A limited range but from the green a ordered, very pleasant!

Not quite pastel, but not super "bright" like some colours are, a slightly "pre-washed" colour is the best way I can describe it. Nice and subtle!
  3. WASHABILITY!
    • Obviously yet to wash, but with a 65% Polyester/35% Cotton mix you'd think it would wash well and hold its shape. I've been told that a higher cotton percentage is what can cause tshirts to shrink easier, but time will tell and if I can remember I shall report back!
  4. Price
    • At £29.99 it is is on the more expensive side for a t-shirt, but I believe it is a fair price. It feels like a "technical" shirt more than a casual cotton job, so perfect for the gym/climbing/running or any other active pursuit.

Uniqlo is here!

Went for the AIRism https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/produc...d-crew-neck-t-shirt-444999COL56SMA006000.html.

Bit undecided on it, certainly doesn't feel very "cotton like," almost feels more like a thicker football jersey type material?
  1. The perfect fit: 2/5
    • Very very "boxy" and oversized. I imagine this is more a current trend than anything else. The sleeves, like in the picture are very long and loose. I think this is better suited to the model in the pictures, much like the Ryderwear was, but where Ryderwear is aimed at more athletic builds, I think this would flatter a slighter frame more. A few rolls of the sleeves makes it better and more fitted around the middle of the bicep. I could go for an L instead of an XL, but then I think that it would be at risk of being too short.
Also now realised that i've posted that link that it's designed to be "oversized"
  2. Colours
    • Again a limited range, but still a nice strong but subtle shade.
  3. WASHABILITY!
    • Again, yet to wash, but the material is 53% Cotton, 30% Polyester, 17% Elastomultiester. be interesting to see what this Elastomultiester does.
  4. Price
    • £15, perfectly reasonable for a quality t-shirt! Unfortunately I don't think i'll be buying anymore due to the fit and not being a huge lover of the "feel" of the material, but if this wasn't the case, and there were more colours, i'd definitely not grumble at the price!
Will definitely be trying the other type of t-shirt Uniqlo do, found here: https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/100pct-supima-cotton-crew-neck-t-shirt-452399.html, but will wait until I can get to a store to see them in the flesh and try them one. I shall report back on this journey of a lifetime when more t-shirts arrive

I actually went to the new Uniqlo store at Battersea Power Station and went for the 100% cotton heavyweight crew t-shirts.

I can't remember the exact one I got but the Supima and the others felt very thin, while these are a more traditional cotton tee, which have been through the wash once already and held their shape nicely!
