Hey guys i got some vouchers for OcUK and i want to get a tablet,

Im stuck between these two

Google Nexus

and

Archos Platinum

The Nexus has been reccomended to me by a friend but the screen res of the Archos is pulling me towards that, all want to use it for is to stream movies from my pc, web browsing and the odd game like football manager.

Merry Christmas

If I was getting one I would go for the nexus, the archos is probably good but I a quick check of reviews and only average scores. They have some nexus in a big world of computers to try before you buy from somewhere a bit more respectable OCUK :)

I followed your advice and went and got a nexus, i bought it from a high street retailer because i want to spend my OcUK vouchers on some other bits and bobs, turned out to be an expensive mistake as my wife roped me into buying her an iPad mini, which may i add for £50 more than the nexus makes it terrible value for money.

The iPad mini is a better all round machine, no doubt. My misses also has a mini, I have a 2012 Nexus 7, the Mini's screen alone is worth the difference. You are more locked into Apples ecosystem, but for just browsing alone, it isn't so bad

I can never get my head around how a 1024x768 screen is better than a 1280x720 one, other than being bigger at 7.9 inch 4:3...

The sreen res of my asus google nexus 7 (2013) is far superior to the ipad mini (non retina) which is what i got my mrs today, (7 inch 1200 x 1920 vs a 7.9inch 768 x 1024) like i said for £50 more i dont think its worth it. For the extra £50 she could have got a 32gb Nexus 7. Others may like the slightly larger screen of the mini and the more secure OS and thats cool, ive been on Android mobile phones for years and have a huge app/music/video library so it made sence to go Android for a tabllet. Wife used to be a BB fan until her first Apple iphone 3gs and currently has an iphone5. She just likes whatsapp and candy crush so she could have easily switched to Android but love the look/feel/design of apple products and that was the selling point for her.

Sorry advice cannot take into account external influences :)

On tablets I think 4:3 is FAR nicer to hold for a web browsing device, obviously 16:9 makes sense if you're using it mostly for videos.

I dont understand this, say for reading these forums 16:9 is ideal, as is most tasks I use mine on (Sony xperia tablet z). Much prefer it to ipad
