What Temp Should A E4300 CPU Run At?

Mine idles at 40 at stock, and I have reapplied the paste quite a few times, I think I have a concave IHS or the like :/

Mine idles at 45 degrees with retail HSF, so you think I should send it back?

download the intel thermal analysis tool (tat) or coretemp to get your temps. Mine idles at 45 on the stock cooler as well, its perfectly normal

my e6600 was idling at 38/39 using arctic cooling freezer 7 pro.... this doesnt seem right to me? i had to set my case fans to full to get this... otherwise it sticks at around 40. i havent overclocked

the temps were read from bios

Well, my overclocked e6300 is currently idling at 41c however it is normally around 33 (it is next to a radiator which is on  ). That's with 1 case fan and a 1000rpm 120mm fan on my freezer 7 pro.

So yeah, yours does seem a little high ambro + tsj.

Mine has gone down to 40 now I have been running it for a bit so I suppose thats a bit more normal, plus I rang overclockers and they said 40 is normal for a e4300, although they could be just saying that so I don't return. :) Plus I ordered the noctua cooler so hopefully I be able to overclock still. Can anyone reccomend what voltage and temp this cpu can handle before becoming unstable?

With the windows open in my room my E4300 runs at 25-29 idle, with them closed it's about 30-33, and thats with it clocked to 2.9ghz using arctic silver 5.
