Ive just bought a new 175w 360, seems to run cooler, but ive also had a massive clearing out of my wires and got a new unit to put my stuff in, so everything is hidden away behind wood.

Ive played a couple of games of fifa with the 360 hidden, and it didnt seem to get too hot, the psu is not enclosed in, but wondered what i should be on the look out for.

Looks awesome with everything hidden away and not a wire in sight.

You'll know if it's getting upset as the fans get quite a bit louder. After a while i think it shuts down the gpu in order to stop it bursting into flames but i don't know the exact detail on that. That is a rather smart setup, i have been contemplating hiding my PS3 behind my tele for a while.

Cheers, ill give it a good sesh on guitar hero and see if its okay over a prolonged period, worst case scenario is i have to open the front when the 360 is on.

Silent 360 behind wood for the win! :P

as far as i know if the 360 just overheats it'll shut down and/or give you an orange light (shown on one of the quadrants).

If the 360 runs hot but not above the threshold its lifespan can still be severely reduced without you noticing that there is a problem.

You should be OK to be honest, with the newer version of the 360. They are much more reliable than the early machines, but that's not hard.

I will say though, if it was me, I would probably make a bigger hole in the back of the unit or take the back off the middle section completely (if the back is in more than one piece), just so a little more air can get in. Oh, and don't push the unit right up against the wall.

I would do this regardless of whether there was an xbox in there or not. It just makes sense to keep electrical equipment in general well ventilated.
