Seriously, what the actual **** has ubisoft done to south park the fractured but whole!?

Played through all of the stick of truth on this laptop which whilst no powerhouse, is more than enough to handle south park level graphics.

So ubisoft, my question is this: WHY THE **** IS THE FRACTURED BUT WHOLE A LAGGY MESS, SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE **** HAVE YOU DONE TO RUIN IT AND WHY!? JUST WHY!?

all you had to do was re-release the stick of truth with a new storyline, that was it, you had one ******* job ubisoft and you ****** it up.

For the first time ever im actually considering going for a refund

Didn't they tweak the engine this time around for the new spells and extra stuff they added?

they've done something, because it's much worse on the same hardware setup for the same overall graphical fidelity (part of my motivation for playing the original was it would run fine on the laptop)

did test it on the main rig and as predicted gratuitous application of horsepower cures the problem but it seems like an unnecessary step. ended up disillusioned so spent the morning non-ironically playing farming simulator instead.

Nah, Ubi have a bad habit of fudging things up.... the game itself is still enjoyable though... but that'll be thanks to Matt & Trey - not Ubi.

The game mechanics are a bit more polished than the first.

Haven't gone too far through it yet, but so far the story isn't quite as involving as the first... I played the first in 2 days!

i know, hence the rant, it's annoying really that ubi get to ruin my fun :(

Low FPS isn't lag, lag is latency related.

What do you call a 2-5s time differential between controller input and game response then? Because its doing that on top of single digit framerates.

TFBW is running on a proper engine this time round (Snowdrop), hence the higher baseline specs required.

I did notice it popping up in the splash screens, so its just overheads of using a more generic engine rather than whatever they were using previously?

Thing is the previous game was fine, all it needed was a new story

The story is a bit of a slow burner compared to The Stick of Truth but once it winds up it's really cool. You won't be disappointed.

well i've got a bit further in and you're right, the story and the mechanics do pick up.

but still not happy with ubisoft butchering this game, audio glitches galore and poor framerates even on the main rig (although it is at least playable)

fingers crossed matt and trey have the sense to avoid them if they're gonna make any more

I must have gotten lucky, played through to completion without any audio glitches or noticeable framerate issues. Hoping for a third time which I feel may be a sci-fi themed one, maybe a star wars parody.

oh the game is good, but crinkleshoes hit the nail on the head- matt and trey wrote a great game and then handed it over to ubi to add that "not quite finished" feel.

i hope there's a third game too, made by whoever made the first one

I don't know what the history behind the move from Obsidian is....but basically yes. TFBW runs on a modern engine targeted at current gen hardware and you're gonna struggle to run it on old systems/integrated graphics.

It would be interesting to know, i'll confess to hardly being an expert on game design but from the customers perspective i'm not seeing much in the way of fancier game mechanics/graphics over the previous game thats justifying the performance hit.
