I've just bought a Belkin 7633 to replace my bt modem, I've got the modem/router set up and connected to my pc/mac/xbox and my phone line. With the BT modem I was apparently connected at about 7.6mbps and would get download speeds of 500kb/s plus. In the belkin router options it says my connection is 7.6mbps with 19db Attenuation (is that good or bad?) but my download speeds are absolutly awful, topping out at about 40kb/s  anyone know why the hell that is?

Tried loads of places, downloads.com, adslguide speed test, my website, my ftp, apple, microsoft, bit torrent all get about the same download rate, uploads are at what I'd expect though (45kb/s)

edit/ I thought it might be a crappy network cable going into my pc but I've just tried the mac using wireless and I get the same result

have you updated to the newest .11 firmware? i've installed my 7633 this week and running great, with the snr tweak i have not disconnected once (3 days now) and sync'd at 8 meg (with Bulldog)

I had something similar to this when going from a ST546 to that exact Belkin router.

Are you using onboard LAN ports? THey caused problems on my DFI board.

Reinstall all the network cards for all the computers if possible that you can.

try and use a wireless or PCI card if using onboard

40Kb/s is too much of a coincidence to be the same as what i had.

Hard reset, clear the bios/reset switch thing and set it up using the disk wizard thing .

Im sorry this isnt very concise im thinking of all the things i did and it eventually works, the belkin is a great router dont panic.

7.6mbps with 19db Attenuation is a good set of numbers if thats your snr for the connection, or the length of the line either way its nice, no probs there.

Very strange, I'm now getting about 300 kb/s on a download, maybe it's a problem at BT's end.

Thats MaxDSL for you, contention is kicking in :)
