So i have been with bt infinity for around 2 years now max speed i ever got is between 2.5-3Mbs per second real time time downloading. but last night it randomly started downloading at 9mbs per second constantly for around 2 hours then it went back to normal this has never happened before and i was just wondering why the hell it did and if my line is capable of that speed why can't i continue to get it because it was epic. :D

well speedtest.net gives me a 15mb download speed but i never see that when downloading anything my real world downloads are always 2.5-3mbs max, But yesterday i got a real world 9mbs solid for a couple of hours in bit torrent and when downloading youtube vids and ive never seen more than a real world 3mbs in 2 years before that.

15 mb ~ 1.8 mB. Broadband advertisements and speedtest.net reports in bits, Windows and torrents reports in bytes. 8 bits = 1 byte. If you're seeing 3mB in torrents, then your broadband speed is around 24mb, perhaps the servers you're testing with speedtest.net can't fully test your speeds.

Definitely 100% mega bytes ive never seen files download so fast. i started to download random stuff just to see how quick it was it was a true 9 megabytes per second now its back to maxing out at 3mb's.

I get 9.25MByte/s flat out with max sync speed - there was some issues yesterday evening and around 2am some people had their line profiles reset or something (along with other maintenance/changes), bit strange though almost sounds like your speeds are being artificially limited for whatever reason.

Which BT Infinity package do you have? Can't remember but I think the 80mb package used a profile which made better use of the line compared to 40mb. Perhaps you was accidently bumped to the higher one for a brief moment?
