Can somebody explain to me why in the name of the Goddess would Virgin1 switch from showing Deep Space Nine right up until the point it was getting real good (In The Line of Fire - the episode the Cardassians and the Dominion take back Deep Space Nine) and then start showing Star Trek:TNG from the start? I mean how bad is Encounter at Farpoint? How bad are their suits? I only want to see tight lycra on hot female cyclists!

Grrr. I wish I had the money to buy the DS9 DVD's. Scratch tht as if I had money for that I'd buy the B5 Box Set.

Anyway, thanks you Virgin1 for the worlds most ****ed up programming.

TNG was the best Star trek series evar...fact (!!)

DS9 was ok but lets be honest cisco was annoying and had an irritating voice.

 His voice isn't annoying. If I was a lady he could certainly talk me in to bed.

Oh er that's a bit gay. :o :D

TNG is good but you need to be later in the programs life (just like DS9 and Voyager)

Yeah they seem to have moved DS9 to 2pm and restarted the series right from the beginning again. Don't know what they're playing at.

I knew this would come in handy:

Honestly, watch The Next Generation again and I challenge anyone to say Deep Space Nine was better. DS9 was fantastic and certainly had some epic storylines and great characters but still wasn't a patch on The Next Generation.

To the OP:
The Star Trek Box Sets are now released in a slim line edition and are very resonably priced on several online shops, makes them much more accessible than the costly plastic boxes (Which I prefered seen as I have six of those boxes and one gammy looking slimline box at the end).
.

TNG is good, don't get me wrong (after all I grew up on TNG) but DS9 is a lot better. Both series have a lot of crap episodes but the continuing story line and excellent character work makes DS9 better.

Neither of them are as good as Babylon 5 but no channel is showing that. At least they cannot pull the plug just as it gets good then! :(

I know you can get the boxsets a lot cheaper now but I have other things that need my financial attention first. Cheers!

It was a mining station, not a battle station. It wasn't in a contested area and there was no reason to fortify it. Defence probably wasn't needed at all and could have been handled by ships based at the station. It was also an out of the way place with few resources, so it had a very low priority for the Cardassians.

That's why the Federation had to reinforce its defensive and offensive capabilities with the coming threat of the Dominion. However, as has been pointed out it was in a contested area - Bajoran space. This is why the Federation moved in.

I love the Defiant.
