hey

This is a quick story about what happened to me today.

Had a phone dropped off for a screen repair, iPhone 4s.
Chap says his mate attempted a fix but the touch screen doesn't work, so i thought that its a simple connector issue.

Turns out the chap broke the connector on the board, I cant fathom how that happens as its so simple i could do it with my eyes closed.

What makes me laugh is that the chap who attempted the repair has ripped the ribbon cable, then to try and cover up his mistake has sandwiched the ends together and super glued them between two bits of card, then wrapped it in black tape. Then denied all knowledge.

It just makes me Laugh that someone could be so stupid and then try to hide it, and makes me rage when people who SHOULDN'T be anywhere close to technology think they can repair something as delicate as an iPhone

Just another day in the land of Phone repairs :P

Can you tell us another story where you overcame someone else's terrible iPhone repair skills and saved the day.

Remember to remain immodest at all times whilst really growing that chip on your shoulder!

Well yea, Once a guy picked up his repair, and as he walked back to his car he dropped it and smashed the screen again

Wait!

First it's really simple.

Then it's a delicate repair that people shouldn't be doing.

What?

What cant you understand? I said its a simple repair that "I" could do with my eyes closed. I have done a few thousand after all. People who haven't done it before then its not something that should be attempted.

Why do you need to defend what you do?

Are you not like the 5-6 'shops' in my local town centre that repair them?

Because people on here seem to be taking the pee?

Also no im not like those shops, I charge parts plus a small labor fee, Whereas These shops charge 2-4x the cost of the parts just to fit them.
I give a 6 month warranty, Personal service and a cup of tea whilst you wait.

Much better :P

Nope, I keep my volume below various caps. Uni got in the way.
I have a repair shop pick up/drop off run every 2 days though. No need to have my own ;)

I was given a broken iPhone 3G and having spent a long time looking at the instructional videos and reading guides to replacing the screen I tried to fix it. I knew I could do it, I've done plenty of close electronic work over the years with no problem.

Changing the battery was simple but when I came to swap the digitiser out, the result was one broken connector :(

It's not possible to know you can do something for sure without first trying. Like I said, everyone has to start somewhere.

Which connector? Not the Speaker/Sensor one on the mainboard i hope? that's a horrid one to break.. not even i have the equipment to solder a new one on :(
