Just about to order the 4870 1Gb version and the price has shot up from £179.99 inc.VAT yesterday -> £223.24.

What the?!? Nearly a £50 hike.... thanks ocUK, not, guess I'll be sticking with my 7300GS a bit longer then.

Has oil gone up or something? lol

EDIT: My point which I forgot to ask in the rage.... what other card should I get? GTX260+? The BFG model is on This Week Only for the same price?

Thanks.

oil shot up in the past couple of days lol.

have these cards gone up everywhere?

With your existing card - per sig - why bother?

Wait till it (hopefully) drops again or is included in weekly offer ?

I've sold that one. :p I wanted to get the 1024Mb to try out as I game at 1920x1200. :)

But after looking at Guru3d.com's review of the GTX260+ it seems to give nearly identical performance as the 4870. Would be a nice comparison I guess if I do get the Nvidia card to see what fan noise and things are like.

The 4870 is quite loud and I found the drivers were a bit fiddly.

Hmmmm.....

My guess is that the reason the price has just gone back up so dramatically, is for the same reason it went down so much in the first place - elsewhere was doing it for the OcUk 'this week only; price, but they are currently out of stock, so no competition. Cant blame ocuk really - business is business :(.

Just get a normal 4870. There's no point in spending £223 on a GTX260+ when it's no faster than a card £40 cheaper. :)

Firegod - whichever you get let's know your views.

Not tempted at moment to change the 4870 I'm running @ 1920x1200 but did 'wonder' myself if either the 1gig or the 'improved' 260 might be ,much, better propositions at that res.

Reason I'm not tempted is am running with 4gb ram of which windows xp 'sees' only 3.25gb so do not want to lose any more by getting a new gpu with larger amount of ram - this is being left until I 'upgrade' to vista 64 , which is in drawer next to me but which I keep putting of installing.:( Amazing that since I purchased vista my comp has run best ever , no glitches etc :)

Well I went with the 4870 1024Mb in the end. It's down to £199 at the moment, so I snapped it up. :)

I'm currently on a 7300GS and I've overclocked it but I can't play any games. lol. Guitar Hero 3, Mercs 2, etc are all really slow. haha.

So, it's arriving Tuesday so it'll be nice to see how it compares to the 512Mb varient. After thinking about it, the 260+ just doesn't seem worth it. :)
