Well just as Fermi draws near and I start thinking of buying a new Graphics card my 8800GTx breathes its last breath tonight.

Shut it down after playing BF BC2. Turned back on as id forgotten to print something and it never came back. Just post beeps 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. Meaning a gfx error. Reseated it, cleared cmos, checked connections and still no go.

Luckily its a bfg card with lifetime warranty so hopefully it should be changed without a fuss. So im now running on a 8800GT which I had in another rig YAY :P

It stops on the No floppy found which is code "7f".

Raises the question do I use this as an excuse and go and buy a new GFX card (5870 or 5970)?

Not sure if BFG will furnish you with current performance equivalent or purchase price equivalent... maybe if you hold onto it for a while you could get a free Fermi? Either way, you may want to hold on because the prices might start moving around rather rapidly on the 26th.
 
nah not going to bake it as I can still return it for a replacement etc. Anyone know if theres a number to call for the UK as my email was sent more than 24hrs ago?
 
Update...

Well today my RMA has been updated and Im aparently getting the same Part number card back acording to the shipping invoice. This means 3 things:

1) Its a New/Refurbed card.
2) Mine was repaired.
3) They didnt find a fault.

I hope its not number 3 abit dissapointed I didnt get a 2xx series card.
 
Well it arrived today 2 days early than Fedex shipping esitmated. Brand new sealed bag and the card looks unused. No dust and No markings on it. Just ran it for 1 hour in Unigine and it works great. The whole process took a week.

So what did you get? But good job - it's nice when an RMA service just works.
 
I got the same card as iI had which was a 8800GTx OC.

Thinking this week of ordering a 5870 but dont know if to go for the Asus or the vapor x sapphire. Any thoughts?
