Hi friends,

Right, Sadly my granddad passed away a few months ago and part of the inheritance is £933.

I will also be getting a share of his house in a few months/years time when my aunt and cousin realize they really can't afford to stay there long term. So my deposit for property ladder will in part come from that + my own savings.

my granddad was always very frank over his mortality and we knew he was nearing the end. He told me that he would like me to use the cash for something I wanted/needed but didn't have the money for and I have been thinking about that for a while and to be honest can't think of anything.

What I really want is something that will last, that will act as a reminder. I have thought about a watch but I don't really wear them much so put that aside for now.

So my question to you is, what would you get and why?

I wouldn't buy anything, yet, not for the sake of just spending it. Put it aside, wait till you see something that you really want, then use his money to buy yourself that.

Honestly, reading that my thought would have been a watch. It's what I'd get as it's something personal that you take with you everywhere. Once you start wearing a watch you get used to it. :)

I did just have an idea, What about laser eye surgery - then everything I look at would remind me of his gift. obviously would cost a fair bit more than 1k but it would certainly help.

I know what you mean, the only thing that worries me about that is might slowly whittle it away into nothing OR it would just swallowed in my other savings.

A tailored suit? There are companies that come to Britain, measure you up in their hotel suite and then you get your suit tailored abroad (Hong Kong/Singapore/Somewhere fancy) and then sent to you. There's been a few threads on here about it, I think (and it would fit in with his personality) Justin has done it a few times, so you'd be able to ask for advice.

A nice suit is one of the best things you could ever own and for a grand you'd get a good one.
