Hi
Just about to splash some cash on a new card, would appreciate some impute and thoughts from anyone who is running what I am looking to buy. Not fussy about brand.
Can stretch to £380/ £400 but I don't see the point as I am not going to get a single card that can run 5k (that would be the ideal). £200 to £300 is the comfort zone although nothing set in stone.
Price is important as this is going to be a short term buy (for me) going to want to replace monitor as soon as I can get 5k i.p.s and a single card that will run it. Having as much spare change to stick in the slush fund for the move to 5k would be good but not averse to dropping more cash.
Running a gigabyte 560 ti at the moment so anything is going to be an improvement. 27 inch monitor at 1920x1080 and an overclocked core 15 4670k. Case will handle a toasty card with no issues.
Contenders are any non-reference 290 that I can pick up on offer for £200 or the M.S.I GeForce 970
Leaning towards the 290 due to its price, the mix of potential coil whine immature drivers and having to drop an extra £80 are putting me off the 970
although if I am missing something more than happy to buy, certainly looks like a tasty card.
Not considered or looked at anything lower down the food chain but if bang for bucks is good and in runs in my res with decent settings and frame rates would consider it.
Gaming wise would like to re-run Skyrim again with full H.D textures (560ti struggled here) and an E.N.B mod (some of the time) at reasonable frame rates when I get it apart from that be the new next gen of first person shooters.
Not used A.M.D for a number of years so wondering what the drivers are like for the 290 at the moment?
With regard to coil whine if anyone has had issues with a 970 and an XFX/ Seasonic Pro750 watt p.s.u would appreciate the heads up.
Cheers.
