What to do about the holes?

Might be a silly question but what do you do with the 120mm fan holes when your rig doesn't use fans anymore?

My system is now passively cooled (Reserator2) so what do I do with the large hole at the back of my TJ05? Blanking plates, fan guards or is their another option?

Edit: I'd like to maximise the airflow from my psu as my Abit has the OTES2 chipset cooling system.

Think I'll need to mask up all the vents and see what temps I get with different combinations of open / sealed.

Any surgestions or water cooling insights?

Tell me is the Resrator series from Zalman any good, i was thinking of going for one once but then decided not to because people where saying the pumps aernt powerfull enough

The Zalman does have a low powered pump (~3w) but that is not an oversight.
It’s designed to be silent (not very quiet as an a good fan at 7v is) but can’t hear it in the middle of the night silent or can’t hear it over the sound of your isolated spinpoint silent. ;)

The pump is not underpowered, it’s just not over powered and if the Reserator2 is sat on the floor / or desk next to your case you don’t need 4m of lift. As to pressure with the exception of the blocks the coolant never passes through anything smaller that the 8mm pipe provided so the pump has very little ‘work’ to do. Most importantly with a passive system you don’t want the coolant moving too quickly through the system, as it will have no time to release heat into the rad.
I personally have my loop as large as possible to give extra heat capacity to the system and maximise surface area. The waterwheel (flow indicator) still spins at 120rpm easy so I’m not worried about flow speed/pressure.

Would I by one at full retail price, no. I’d spend slightly less and get 10 Alphacool cape Cora tubes (well the non branded German ones anyway) a quiet low voltage pump and some good blocks. But at just over half price it was a steal, and works out of the box in 60mins.

If using the Reserator2 on an OC system you’ll not break any records, but you can achieve a reasonable clock (see sig)
To compare – previous cooling was an xp-120 and 120mm amber (7v) an oversized aluminium passive heat sink on my 7300 and two 120mm Amber case fans (5V). At 100% load this achieved 55c in coretemp but at 300Hz higher. It was also very quiet but not silent (now it makes the same noise as being off )

You can use an additional external pump (the manual even says so!) but I’ve no plans to until I update to a quad and some extra Cora tubes.

Hope that helps - should deal with your [email protected] with ease but the 8800 is another matter
