So, I am building a new PC soon, and have read the guide on here that is very good for assembling the PC, but what I wonder is, once u have put all the components in the case, what are the exact procedures you now do to get you to having your fully working system? I assume installing Windows cant be all you have to do?

Thanks
George

You forgot the bit in between where you curl up before extending your finger toward the button and then just as you do your heart races, perhaps a flash break of sweat will excrete from your forehead or underarms as well :p

Basically, installing windows is all you have to do. That is assuming, of course, that you installed all of the hardware and cables correctly and can get the BIOS screen as stulid said.

Put the Windows disk in, crack open a beer and wait. Then enjoy your new computer.

Right so pretty much Follow greywolf's guide exacetly and correctly >> boot up >> put windows disc in >> go into BIOS (if I can) >> change boot prio to CDDVD >> reboot >> follow prompts >> "get a beer and wait"?

Thats about it, also check the time and date.

If your using a SSD then set the SATA controller to AHCi mode instead of IDE.

Install windows.

Install the motherboard chipset driver, graphics driver and sound driver. (get latest from the internet)

Do Windows update and anti virus and firewalls.

What type of Hard Drive are you using? If it is SSD make sure it is set to ACHI in BIOS BEFORE you install your OS.

Read the BIOS screen - you might just have to press a certain key (F11, ESC etc) to select a boot device.

wipe the sweat from my head, then press the on button, press del to get into bios, check if motherboard is picking up the temps. Then come out, stick windows 7 disc in, install windows, download 500gb of updates then switch it off and goto bed.

Connect everything, double check honestly when you are putting A-B-C-D together sometimes you miss one. Make sure everything is connected before closing it up and pray that it works. Go to the Bio's and change the boot prior sit back and relax and follow along... LOL it do itself and then further on install online the latest updated drivers :) good luck my FRIEND!

Right ok, and short of static damaging/ stupidly breaking a component (bending pins etc), is there anything else that I could do to break anything at any point in the process?

Whilst in the BIOS it'd probably be a good idea to check your memory is running at the right voltage too ...
