Another one of these! :o

Basically I've had a tough time the past few years, wont go into specifics but I had to take care of an ill mother and live with and care for my grandmother, all this whilst working my ass off for a wage, having a royally screwed up head with regards to what and where I wanted to take my life. I flunked uni, passed half the year and this year was given no option to take resit examinations, I have to wait until next year.

I recently turned 22, not getting any younger, made some bad decisions in life, had a tough time at home...Can I hear a violin solo?

I have two years experience in interactive design, a years experience managing departments and three years experience in sales at a senior level. I wish to go into account management within an area I know a lot about, digital design pipelines, technology etc.

So, baring my age in mind. Do I repeat and pay for my modules at uni whilst continuing to build up work experience, meaning I'd have a degree at the age of 24, honours at the age of 25. Or, leave and enter a close enough field and try to build my way up? Opinions?

Thanks for reading! :)

if you know what you want to do, i would try and get some experience in that field first, before commiting to a degree again.

If you are on the right track, you always have the option of uni and more importantly the finance but if you finish the degree and want to change direction again, cash upfront will be needed.

I think you need to be sure where you want to go and whether you will actually stick with it, regardless of the situation. :)

What degree were you doing?

I would imagine a sales job would be very difficult to make ends meet in this climate?

I would go back to uni in sept or sep 2012, get a good degree and pray the economy is better, if it's not I would do a masters, but only in an applied, job related field.

First point would be that graduating at 24-25 is far from the end of the World, you may of course find that you don't really want/need a degree for your chosen path but I certainly wouldn't discount it just because of age.

Is account management something you need a degree for? I'd guess not if it's essentially about being the liaison between a company and the customer to sort out problems and trying to expand the range of services they purchase from you - is that broadly right? If my guess is correct then it might be a better idea to get yourself into a company in the right field and angle your way towards becoming an account manager there - try a few and see if they've either got a training programme or would be willing to take you on as an account manager/junior?
