Will be buying a new setup soon! and seeing there is the new boy on the block (E6400) I'm wondering what to get?? I will definately be overclocking and I do game a lot... but It will mainly be TMN & TDU so nothing too taxing game wise.
Now seeing as there isnt a lot of info around at the moment on the E6400 with regards to how fast it is compared with, with the E6300 when oced...just wondering what the general thoughts are! of you experienced people on this subject.

There needs to be some comparison benchmarks between the two CPUs when oced to say 3ghz+ but I guess they will come when more people get them in.

Just FYI, the E6400 isn't the noob, its been out since launch, the E4300 is the new cpu that has just came out!

As for comparisons, i think it matches the E6300 clock for clock when run at the same speed.

Main point in buying an E4300 over a E6300 is that you will not need an expensive motherboard or expensive ram

The E4300 is the new processor. The 6400 is the same as the E6300 but with the multiplier jacked up from 7 to 8 so it runs at 2.1GHz rather than 1.86GHz.

Have a look in the E4300 thread below. It's still early days to say which is *** best value though.

DARN IT - beaten by seconds!

Back on subject of what to do; go for a cheaper motherboard, im sure someone else will recommend you one, and get some cheaper ram and pair it with a E4300. That way your overall spend would be a lot less than it would to get a E6300 to the same speed - in theory, it is still early days, they may be rubbish overclockers yet, but i hope not :D

Oops sorry my bad...I ment E4300 :o Iv read through the big thread and seen what its capable of...just wondering how the higher multi and lower fsb effect's the performance on comparison with the E6300, when oced to 3ghz+. I always thought lower multi and higher fsb is best.....but then the E4300 may be able to clock even higher than the E6300, well I have a few days to decide, I just dont want to be one of the Guinea pig's :)

Edit...

then thinking you wont have to slacken memory timings either with the E4300 like you do with E6300 so thats a benefit

It's actually quite a big benefit especially if you get the ASUS P5N-E SLi as you'll be able to run 1T settings under 425FSB on the RAM. PsychoSonny is being our P5N-E SLI/E4300 guinea pig at the moment and I hope he's warming to the combination ;)
