Hey all my bits have come from OCUK but now its a matter of putting it together. What should I do first...... maybe put the CPU on the motherboard then put paste on top and place fan on?

This is my usual method:

1: CPU
2: Paste
3: Heatsink
4: RAM
5: GFX
6: Power it on and check it posts, check BIOS temps
7: Unplug GFX
8: Fit Mobo into case
9: GFX again
10: DVD/HD
11: Install OS

Bit risky powering it on outside of case don't you think lol

1: CPU
2: Paste
3: Heatsink
4: RAM
5: Fit mobo into case
6: GFX
7: DVD/HD
8: Rough wiring (If that makes sense)
9: Power it on and check it posts, check BIOS temps, power off
10: Cable management
11: Install OS

i put the CPU with paste and fan on to the motherboard

install ram

install motherboard in to case

install PSU, plug it all in

install GPU

see it powers up

then install HD, DVD drives etc

This is looking harder than i expected. There are so many cables from power unit. then cables from both fans, aint got clue where they go

take your time with the cabling, keep things as tidy as possible.

if the fan cables are small 3/4 pin then onto your motherboard, should show as chassis fan, cpu cooler should have one labelled cpu.

no reason why it should be, lets you power it up to make sure everything is working , rather than having to strip it out of the case it you have problems.

plus it also saves confusion with the usual shorting/grounding issues if the mobo stands arn't placed/secured properly.

Motherboard is screwed in. Slightly worried I placed CPU on slot and pushed the bar down to lock into place. I had to put quite bit pressure onto it. Also no CPU grease for the fan? Should this been provided or do you have to buy yourself

Surely putting the heatsink on after RAM would be recommended, my RAM wouldn't even be able to fit in if the heatsink was put in first.

it can take a bit of pressure to lock into place, long as your not bending the mobo too much as you do it your ok.

you mean for the cooler ?, usually its either supplied with a little tube, or already put onto the cooler base.

Would not say paste but if you touch bottom of fan there is like sticky tape sort of thing on it. Grey and sticky but does not come off onto your hands

Ive done two now, and I blagged my way through my first one.

Most of it is common sense and 90% of the wiring is labelled up for you on the mobo so don't worry about it :)

Anything else that I wasn't sure of and a quick post on here sorted it out for me straight away :)
