I have my machine set up and ready to begin its like as my server, i need to install the OS and am wanting to pick your brains over some issue's.
I have been advised to go with microsoft server 2003 but am unsure if this will fit my needs and what its like getting drivers for hardware?
heres my spec for the server, athlon t'bred 2000+ 512mb ddr asrock k7s1gx mobo and 3x 120gb hard drives for storage plus a 60gb for the OS.

thing is i want it internet browsable to so i dont have to burdan my man machine with tasks other than gaming so i want to stream content to my main pc from the server? like video files and audio, download files using a torrent cliant on the server? possibly install freeware apps over the network if needs be if at all possible?

let me know please what you think i should do weather to install server 2003 and wich release either standard, datacenter i have no idea what makes these differant i just know there are differant variants for sale.
that or weather to install a copy of xp and set up a home network? what do you think would fit my needs better.

If you want a decent solution, install a Linux Distro. Its free, extremely stable, has more support than Gates can ever give and works top notch in a Windows Environment. :)

Edit: Ubunto is your best bet. Its very user friendly!

unsure about linux as ive never used it before, does it have driver support?

You will have no problems with drivers for your spec. If you want the best streaming content then you definaltely need server software.

Linux Ubunto Server is very user friendly. Its even been put in comparison with Server 2003.

If your interested, throw a thread in the Linux section and you will get loads of info on it :)
