I have just been sold a Asus 754 board (unsure of the model at the moment) and a AMD 64 3200+ for £20... The only problem is its AGP but wouldnt it give me some decent ish platform for gaming?

What would anyone suggest with regards to the graphics card? Would some PC3200 memory from Geil (value stuff) be ok with this?

Advice would be great :)

Plenty of AGP cards are still available to make a semi-decent gaming rig and PC3200 will be fine with that system. What to buy would need a budget and some idea of the games you play and at what settings and resolution ;)

Thank you :) Hope this helps :D

Well I try and play all my games is the max setting and the biggest res of my monitor which is 1280x1024...

I mostly play FPS and driving games. So things like GTA Vice City or San Andreas, Serious Sam, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament 2004, Simpsons Hit and Run, Need for Speed Underground 2, Midnight Club 2 etc...

I never do budgets as such, but I do say, if something is 50% better at £x amount then I'd go for it, but if its £100+ then I would think twice.

I'd only really need the graphics card as I have memory, case, PSU, hard drive, optical drives, so it wouldnt be such a bad thing to spend £200 on a decent graphics card if its gonna last me 6 to 12 months :)

I'm hopefully not being stupid here, but does that help?

The board is an Asus kv8 se delux... Is that a good thing or not? comes with the heatsink and fan too :) Just recommendations on the graphics card now :D

Are the 6800GS cards worth the cash or would it be better to get the 7800GS model instead?

Thanks for the help in advance :D

A 7800GS is the better of the two, if more expensive. The BFG or Leadtek are good makes, althought the Gainward cards are better again but a good bit over your budget.

I'll aim for a Gainward card then :) I have to buy another monitor as well and keyboard/mouse, but that is the least of my worries.

If its only £20 over, I'll go for the Gainward, if its more, I'll try one of the others :)

Many thanks for the help :)

I wasnt sure, so I had a look.. The Gainward cards are £260 the BFG and Leadtek are £190 and £212...

Trying to find a review on the Gainward, but not very successfull so far... Will try again when I get home from work :)

If the leadtek cards are £212 and the gainward models are £260, how do the 4 extra pipe lines and few more Mhz on the core and memory speeds fair? I'd personally think, they might be worth the money?? I'd just like some benchmarks to prove this and I'm sold!
