I'm off to the USA tomorrow, mainly to Nashua in New Hampshire for our global IT conference.

However, in order to get cheap flights, I'm going early and will have a weekend in Boston first.

Reccomend me some good bars, restaurants and any places I can pick up cheap electrical goods (PDA, Zen Vision:M etc).

Cheers! :)

I think best place to get electricals would be somewhere like Best Buy, as i've found most places are the same price really.

Theres a great place for shopping with loads of places to eat etc etc, let me check it for you.

Don't buy anything in Boston, wait until you get into New Hampshire as you will then not be paying any sales tax (vat). Just north of Nashua is a place called Tilton, there are loads of retail outlets there that are silly cheap.

for things to so in Boston there are a few things

Aquarium
Cheers Bar
Science Museum (they have a lightning show there)

Best form of transport is the "T"

And for a laugh and a good sightseeing tour go on the Duck (you will see them around)

Was about 8 years agot when I was there but I would love to get the chance to go back.

Enjoy

When in Boston drink Sam Adams Boston Beer.

Hell, drink it if you're not; it's delicious!

I can recommend the Union Oyster House - apparantly the oldest restaurant in America. But then a lot of them say that. Maybe give it a miss if you don't like fish though. :)

Ah good point! I went there in may but didn't do any shopping. I'd forgotten about them not having any sales tax. Cheers!

I've been there on my last visit - huge meal. Good clam chowder.

But the Fanuel hall area is the only place I did go to. Be nice to visit other places.

No problem. :)

Maybe go and see the USS Constitution (Charleston Navy Yard)?

I don't know if the Sox will be playing at home while you're there, or if you can even get a ticket if they are, but try to catch a game at Fenway if at all possible. Great atmosphere.

I used to trade Brown Ale for Sam Adams with GIs in Germany. Lovely stuff.

I see it occasionally in shops here but not very often and I've never seen it in a bar in the UK.

The USS constitution is really worth going to see.

the JFK library is also worth a visit, a fascinating insight into JFK.

One of the US IT guys has organised tickets for an Ice Hockey game. Result! :D

Bruins at the Fleet Centre (unless they've changed the name of the place....it happens a lot)?

Edit.

Or maybe the Monarchs in Manchester, NH?

Walk into a Bar/Restaurant and in your bestest British Accent say...

"I say Chaps, Would you be so kind as to furnish me with a Cup of your Finest Tea!"

(Historical Referance..... But I'll get me coat!)

Now the TD Banknorth Center.

Saw the Bruins play there last year.

Jump on a trolley bus tour for a general taste of the place - I recommend the orange and green ones.

Aquarium and Science Museum are really good. Copley Place/Prudential Centre and Downtown Crossing for shopping, or Newbury/Boylston for the designer shops. Some real bargains to be had in Filene's Basement. Check the local paper for money off coupons for Filene's - there are often 10% off weekends if you have the coupon, and that's 10% off everything, even sale prices. Newbury Comics for CD's DVD's. One on Newbury Street, and another just up from Faneuil Hall.

Theres also a good bowling alley/pool place called Lucky Strike and the Beerworks is nearby too.

Sam Adams isnt bad, they do crates of it in Makro.

The Holocaust memorial is certainly unique too.
