What to do now? Titan Question.

Hi all,

I'm after your thoughts regarding the predicament I'm in.

I currently have 1 x Titan card. I'm looking at running a multi Asus ROG Swift monitor setup when they are finally released.

Titan has been discontinued but I like the fact that the card has 6gb of VRAM, which I'm guessing may be beneficial with the multi-monitor setup mentioned above.

From a quick scan of the famous auction site, Titans are quite scarce but I'd be looking at around £550 to pick up another for SLI.

Would you look at this option, or look to sell the Titan now and replace with 2 x 780 Ti's (or wait till the next big thing)?

I'm concerned that the longer I want, the rarer another Titan for SLI will become.

Cheers

- Matt

Well, I'd better get typing then!

Still, the question remains - keep or sell the Titan? Do I invest in another or wait for the next gen card? Heart wants to buy another, as it has been / is an awesome card; head is saying that buying old tech at a high price is not a great idea.

As mentioned other sites do still have titans in stock or second hand I would say around £500 is the spot.

You could go down to 2x780tis.

With the titan black out next week I would imagine there been a lot more second hand titans coming onto the market and could drive the price down a bit.

Sell it while it' worth some... It'll drop down even more in value when the 800 series release.

Cash it in now and buy a couple of 290's

64 ROPS per card will benefit you when running silly resolutions.

I think when the 800 series arrives it will hit 290 prices even harder.

All the ROPS in the world won't do you any good when you run out of vram running 4K.

The Titan's have more life left in them than the 290 series.

It was the best move I could make buying another Titan for SLI. No need for me to worry about consoles VRAM demands :D and a pair of Titans 'should' see me ok for a couple of years :)

lol ^

2 decent 290's are gonna cost £700 minimum.

Easier just just buy another TITAN for £400-500

In a way yes but if he got 450-500 for the titan he would only need to add around 250-300 for 2 brand new cards instead of 450-500 for a second hand Titan.

Kaap i would say just about any game that will use over 4gb of ram @ 4k on a 2 x 290's is gonna be just about unplayable on sli Titan or crossfire 290's. At playable frame rates i doubt 4gb of ram is in danger atm and by the time it is the Titan and 290p will be midrange.

Crysis 3 is already unplayable on 4 290Xs at any resolution as the drivers don't work, add to that Gregster has used 4.6gb of vram measured on a Titan. Crysis 3 also scales near perfectly on 1,2,3 or 4 Titans and would run fine maxed @4k.

Then there is our old friend Skyrim with mods, yes I know it depends on how many mods but you can run a whole lot more with 6gb than you can with 4gb.

If ever the Devs get RTW2 sorted this is another game that will breach 4gb @4k.

Newer games are coming along that will use more than 4gb @4k and at the moment the Titan is the only viable option available.

ROPS! This seasons must have argument :D

Has anyone bothered to look at what ROPS actually does on a GPU?

Lol honestly i don't know. :D

I think they help at high res/high aa. One thing i do know is the 7970 ghz was ROP limited at 32 ROPS. If it had say 48 for example, it would be nipping at the heels of a stock 780.

ROPs are what fill the pixels, the more you have, the more fill rate you have, the more pixels you can push without a performance drop.

ROPs are very very important when it comes to ultra high resolutions.
