Heya,
I recently bought a new computer. i dont know much about hardwhere and the computer specs are not great, i just wanted bang for my buck.
Basically, i have a few questions and when replying consider that my knowledge on hardware is fairly limited. Firstly i unlocked one of my cores and it runs stable (currently keep it at duo core though). The fourth core does not work at all, if i switch it on the computer wont boot.
My first question is how to monitor core temperatures on a computer with unlocked cores.
Also im interested in fitting a drive bay tempereture monitor which tells me my core temps, is there one out there that tell me the core temperetures?
Also im quite interested in overclocking but have little knowledge on how. If someone can find a link to a chart of bus freq/ multiplyer/ voltages on hardware similar to mine, i would be gratefull. In my Bios, theres a an option to switch to an 'Overclock mode' this comes in 3%, 5% or 7%. Can anyone shed light as to what exactly this is doing?
My final request would be recomendations on what you think i should do when it comes to keeping my unlocked core on, what speeds should i try to get considering my current hardware and what upgrades should consider to up performance or ease with overclocking. I dont have a budget but consider what parts i have so far. recomending a upgrade which matches the cost of my pc is a bit silly.
specs:
Board: ASUS M4N68T-M-LE-V2
CPU: 3.30 gigahertz AMD Phenom II X2 560BE (third core unlocked but kept off currently)
RAM: 4gb
Graphics: GTS 450
case: zalman z7+ with all its extra fans.
using stock values and cooling.
My core tempereture readings at 2 cores (room temp 20c):
Idle: 23C
Max load: 45c
I know overclocking is unique to parts and person, im not looking for instruction on what to do but rather an opinion. Its not that i need the extra boost, my pc has had no problems at any game ive used it with and thats mainly what i use this thing for.
Thanks for replys.
