Hi Everybody,

I shall be receiving my new XPS in a few weeks, this is my second one to replace my old one which has broken.

When I received my old one I had a windows restore disc and a few other bits and bobs.
Will I get the same disc this time round? I've had to format my laptop a few times over the years and this disc made everything so much easier.

I want to format the laptop as soon as I get it, so all the bloat ware is gone.

Thanks for the help

Set up a usb Windows 7 installation - takes about 8 minutes to do a full install on mine - well worth the faff of the initial set up. Go to the Dell site and grab copies of all the drivers you will need and have them ready to go. Get copies of all your favourite software to clutter up your fresh install.

Will I be able to burn it to disc instead of taking up a USB stick?
I will definitely be trying to minimise the amount of software this time, on my old laptop I just had loads of software and some I rarely used

I got my xps 501 from comet clearance warehouse at the weekend, brandnew :) & its barely got any bloatware on it! Mcafee & cyberlink think that's it.

I got mine 2 weeks ago, was thinking of a reinstall myself but it wasnt too badly bloated, uninstalled mcafee, disable dell stage and remove roxio and that was the system in a clean state pretty much.

You can create system restore disks using the dell backup program, but I'm not too sure if they reinstall any of the bloat ware with a new install, haven't tried it myself

Laptop arrived yesterday, while I am happy with my purchase I much preferred the design and layout of my old XPS. Oh well.

Now I just need to finally manage to turn my old laptop on (stupid GFX card) and then I can start the transfer of my itunes!

My old HDD will be used as an external device I think

could pull out the hdd and put it in a caddy to get your data if you cant use the old laptop?

Just did that. I thought it might cause problems because of the passwords and stuff.
All done!

Ordered another caddy and set up my NAS this evening. Very productive day I must say!
