Hey all

Quick question i'm about to order a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro cpu cooler to replace my stock one on my q8400 which reaches over 40c idle, 65+c just playing Far Cry 2 and over 88c when running Prime95 for less than 5 mins! I'm not overclock and reading the reviews anything seems better than the stock cooler.

Anyway reading around it seems that the Freezer 7 Pro come applied with Thermal paste so my question is what do i do about the stuff already on the cpu from the stock cooler?

Do i need to buy cleaner to remove it (like the articclean)? Or can i simply just place the new cooler with thermal paste over the old one? I'm really confused as i've never really had to upgrade the cooler :(

Thanks

Just wipe the cpu with a drop of isopropyl alcohol (i use cd cleaner) with a lint free cloth.

Thxs guys for the quick response :)

As stupid as this sounds seeing as i don't really know what isopropyl alcohol is :(, i'll get some of the Akasa Cleaner (cheaper than articclean and good reviews) :) and if i can't get my hands on a lint free cloth reading around do coffee filters actually work?

Also one last thing my current temps are:
C1:=56;
C2:=51;
C3:=50;
C4:=51;
For some reason C1 seems hotter by 5c would there been any particular reason off hand? Running prime95 for all of about 3 mins i noticed the some core1 is always hotter! Bizarre!

Yep both my q6600 and my q9550 have a bit of variation, even after lapping the q6600 they were still pretty varied.

Cool thxs guys for the piece of mind :) will definitely be ordering tomorrow first thing.

And wow i'm surprised there still a difference after lapping i would have thought all would be even by that stage.

Just nip to your local chemist - they usually stock it. It'll last you a lifetime, if you get a large bottle, and it comes in handy for cleaning lots other things.

Don't forget about the lint free cloth tip.
