What to do & where to stay in Singapore?

I'll be there alone for a few days early in February as a stop over back from NewZealand and I'd like to hear from anyone who has been

I've had a quick read up on a few tourist websites but there's nothing like first hand advice

So... what area is best to stay? hotel recommendations? activities?

The zoo sounds good and I will have a Singapore Sling (although I will look rather sad by myself hahhar )

The Pacific hotel looks very nice but slightly more than my budget

the travel agent who I booked my flights with today recommended the zoo but told me the night safari is pap

I don't plan to do any shopping really, it sounds similar to shopping in Hongkong which I hated.

I just want a few days to chill and a few activities, I'll be having a Singapore Sling in the Raffles though, I don't mind paying over the odds for that tbh just to say I've had it
