Not worth cluttering up either of the main cycle threads with this.......
One of my friends at work has given up on this bike after another puncture and it's abandoned in the store room at work. I have just put a new tube on the rear tyre this morning for him however I'm wondering if a £2 tube is all the money worth investing in this? It needs a new rear tyre as its quite worn and the rubber is starting to die of old age. It's never had a new chain or cassette either. The rear derailleur doesn't seem to be working but I'm sure it's nothing a good clean and oil can't fix (don't think it's ever been cleaned or oiled since I last did it for him 2 years ago)
He has recently had the front wheel bearings done and a new front tyre fitted. I reckon I can get a rear tyre, new cassette and a new chain for under £20 and If I give it a good clean and oil I reckon I can get it going again.
So back to my original question, is it worth fixing? Or should we just donate it to a local cycle recycling project/charity? Plan C would be to single speed it, my friend says he doesn't use the gears, though that may be more down to the fact that you can't use them!
Cheers
Dave
