Well it looks like my xbox has finally given up after about a month of half working. the 360 actually works fine, I can play games on it, flick through the blades and get sound from it all etc, I just cant....see....what i'm doing. It looks like the video output has died. I've tried repairing it but with no luck

I have previously repaired it from the 3rrod error by ripping it appart and applying AS5 to it and it had been workin fine for over a year. I even sprayed the case

Obviously it is waaaaaaaaay out of warranty so my question is, what can I actually do with it now? recycle it anywhere? sell it as spares etc?

yeah, though tbh im suprised its lasted as long as it did with it being one of the original xenon chipsets lol

I've allready had it appart to try and fix it, infact it's still in pieces at the min. I tried a new layer of AS5, i tried gettin the solder to re-flow using a heat gun, but no joy

when connected to my projector it just crashes my projector completly and makes it display random flickering colours. cant turn the pj off or anythin till the 360 is unplugged, but if its connected to my TFT it works for a few mins then i get the flickering random colours. Imagine the loading screen from a Commadore 64 tape drive :) ive tried it with 2 vga cables and a composite cable too :(

If i sold it, all i'd be able to sell is the main shell, mobo, cd drive etc. the case isnt really sell-able unless someone wants a slightly broken CRTL-ALT-DEL case lol

i tried the heatgun method after finding a vid on google vids on how to do it. it didnt work unfortunitly :(

I may give it another go though and see how it turns out. your right that it aint gonna break it anymore

lol Hmmm, "how would you like your 360 sir?" "medium well please :)"

I'll give them methods another try, thanks for the tip on the oven one. could be interesting :) would it be best to cover the whole board in tin foil or just the parts you listed (same parts I used for the heat gun method)

Sounds like you have one hell of a door stop there! :D

Not anymore, Phemo is a genius! my xbox lives!!!!

For those who get the same problem, follow this tasty recipe :)

- Preheat oven to 230 degrees C (Gasmark 8)

- Strip the 360 down completly, remove the heat sinks so all you have is the motherboard with all the cores exposed

- Wrap all the capacitors and connectors up in tin foil, leaving the CPU, GPU, RAM and ANA scaler chip exposed

- Put the motherboard in the oven on the middle shelf and wait for 4 minutes

- Remove the motherboard and leave to cool

- Re-apply some Arctic Silver 5 to the CPU and GPU, and re-assemble the xbox

i thought the problem was with the ANA scaler chip as Phemo said? if it is then there isnt an x-clamp or any kind of heatisnk on it and is just exposed?

As an update, since my post saying it worked, I've been usin my xbox all this time (9 hours or so?) playin assassins creed and its been perfect, not a single problem :)

Mines still going strong :) and since doing mine have also done another that had the 3RROD error. That is also working fine now too lol

I just have visions of Microsofts official repair center being like a bakery now, huuuuuge ovens set at 230 degrees and a few workers usin big metal trays to put 12 broken xbox's in the ovens at a time, then takin them out again after 4 minutes to cool on a rack somewhere before being rebuilt and shipped out :D

I could pretty much guarantee it will work again :)

I did the x-clamp mod on mine and it hasnt even so much as frozen or crashed in a game since. it survived the Wales LAN in November and its surviving the endless hours gaming i seem to be doing every night till early hours of the morning lol

to me dirty disc errors means the DVD drive is knackered. this fix is for RRoD and gpu/scaler chip problems so it probably wont help you. but if its out of warranty its always worth a shot :)
