I am upgrading my nephew's computer next week and he is giving me his 4850 card. I already have an 4870. I know if I put his card in my machine, it will be like having 2 4850's, but would it be really worth it over the single 4870

Probably worth crossfiring it if you're getting the card for free. Googling for reviews of this type of setup seems to suggest there's some nice performance gains to be had :)

aye, the hd3xxx/hd4xxx series would let you do a 3850/3870 or a 4850/4870 combi and get the appropriate performance increase (ie, a bit faster than two 850s but a bit slower than 870s)

although i guess your psu needs to be upto spec...

Ahh thats different, im in the same boat. Wether to sell my sli gtx 275's and move to a single 470. Damm the recession lol.

Well free crossfire isnt bad, even with 4850 speeds, of course it will depend on your resolution your gaming at.
