So I have an old ultra that seems to be on its death bed, A few days ago it started having a few red artifacts. Mainly It's just the odd pixel here or there but the display drivers does crash and recover leading to screen flashing. I figure I might be able to revive It a bit with some baking but wondering if there is any real point? I already ordered a 7770 as a cheap replacement card for now and I would imagine that would match or improve on the ultra while drawing a lot less power and creating a lot less heat and noise.
Is there any point in using the ultra for nvidia physx if I can get it working again? would its power consumption and temps be reduced running Physx? Before the artifacts the diode would idle at around 50C and get to around 70C on load and that's with the fan going 100% and flexi fan pointing at its backplate/northbridge
It feels like such a shame to just toss it in the bin though, such a great card that's worked so well for a good 5-6 years and still performs fairly well. feel like I should bronze It and keep it forever
What would you do with It? Would any one even want it for scraps or to use in a Sli? cant imagine there are many other 8800 ultras still running
