Been sitting on this for a while, since the 290x have come down in price, its tempting to get a second. However i would love a second lightning at those prices, but also would need a new PSU as my current one it 750 watt and runs it fine, But not enough obviously for two.
However I could not fit two on my UD5 z77 gigabyte MB, they would touch, for a while i did think about getting a new MB but that most likely would mean a new CPU too due to the lack of availability now on those older boards which would offer adequate spacing to accommodate two lightnings. I do have a budget of about 1k. When i brought the lightning I thought that would do me, and it serves better my needs than the two 680"s I had SLI. However there is an itch to improve. I have had issues in the past with Nvidia driver problems, that i could not resolve without moving to AMD so i need to stay AMD as this seems to have fixed my issues, and just suffer the extra power requirements.
I think that even having a second two slot card as the top card in crossfire will still be too hot like a MSI gaming or Tri-x does anyone have a Lightning crossfired with another card? It occurred to me only yesterday and are now considering to look at a 295x2 and pair that as the top card in tri fire with the lightning. I have casually browsed some sites and get that it is possible, Im thinking this would get around the heat issues, But would a 2700k 4,5 ghz bottleneck this with only 8gb of 1600 ram? and would a superflower 1300 watt manage.
Any thoughts or has anyone has got a similar setup. The £850 is similar cost it would be to getting a new MB,CPU and lightning to accommodate a second card anyway?
Edit to add, For the record i run 3 monitors 5760 by 1080 27 inch 60 hz in eyefinity.
