What to do with gfx cards

I am currently running a 1.5GB 580GTX card in my development/ gaming rig.
I have held out for as long as possible but now feel that I need a boost to my GFX.

I have used Nvidia for many years now as I found the drivers more stable when comparing the two on several occasions (I have not tested in the last 3 years).

I was tempted to splash on a 980 TI as the extra ram would be great for the development side of things. The price is steep though and I know with AMD chucking out a few cards soon I could be wasting my cash.

I was then tempted to grab a cheaper 970GTX, use it for 4-6 months and then jump over to the next released powerhouse (to cover me for another 2 years).

Anyone have any views on on the above?, what would you do?
I was also wanting to play fallout 4 @ 1440 on release.

I'd wait for some reviews for the Fury X.. but I have personally had enough of AMD's crossfire drivers.
