What to do with my spare Peltier

Quite simply, I've got a spare peltier sitting around, what's the best thing to do with it?
Thinking CPU/GPU cooling? Some way of using it to cool the pipes on my A8n32?

Cheers

Stick a spare heatsink on both sides and blow the cold one into the case and the hot one out. Air-conditioned case.
Allows you to lower ambient temp in the case resulting in lower temps for everything thats aircooled.

Does that actually work ?

Can cooler idea sounds pretty cool to me, you could push it against beers / cans to quick cool them quick before you drink them......

Or.. an ingenious curly straw with a metal section, cooled by a peltier so you can slup warm things, and they come out cool.....

Make a coaster to cool your beers.

I've been toying with that idea for ages - I've got a spare 80W'er kicking around - metal coaster, large HSF underneath and a square hole in the desk... It would be awesome - dude - go for it!

Why wouldn't it?
Thats exactly what an airconditioning unit does, albeit using a compressor system rather than a pelt but its the same principal. Same goes for fridges and mini fridges which do use a pelt.

You blow air over the cold side into the case and air over the hot side into the room or outside.

I intend to get a pelt sometime and have a play around with it, and i'll certainly have a go at cooling my case with it if i can get some heatsinks that'll fit...

you could stack pelts.... have a pelt of a higher wattage clooing the hot side of that pelt... you'd end up with a happy little stack and (i think) lower temps.

failing that, jam it on the side of a WC res and ding! chilled system!

of course you could just give it to me... I like pelts... can't seem to get enough of 'em :D

Stacking is never a good idea - the top pelt (even if it's a higher Watt one) will often be overcome by the combined power of the chip and the 1st pelt - ends up adding heat to the system rather than taking it away! (Or just blowing up)

Lots of good ideas here

They're not to hot on the AC idea - not massively efficient and won't make more than a couple of degrees difference.

What size pelt is it - ever considered strapping it to your res/rad? Again- not very efficient and cooling is an issue, but might be a fun project - just remember that you need as much pressure as possible on the pelt so nice flat surface and coldplate are a must!

(I'd still go for the beer mat!)

not sure what size pelt. Physically about the size of a cpu.

Has anyone tried using a pelt to cool the ambient case temp by bolting on heatsinks? Any luck?

i'm using my Pelt atm to do that (waiting on a 7900GT to arrive), i've got it all connected up to my Loop, and then a super-old socket 7 cooler bolted to it. it's dropping temps down about 3'C atm, for that kinda decrease i think you'd be better using it to cool a component directly.

You'll always see best performance connecting it direct to the component - what size pelt is it, what GPU block are you going to use and have you got a coldplate?
