Hi,
I’m writing on behalf of a small charity called The Aidis Trust - www.aidis.org. We help disadvantaged disabled people to communicate and lead more independent lives through adaptive technology. This can be as simple as a rollerball mouse but also includes screen magnifiers, large key keyboards, voice recognition software, head pointers and other adapted input devices.
One of the services we offer for disabled people is refurbishing computers. This is vital when disabled people are on low incomes and cannot afford new computers. We take donated computers, wipe the hard drives, install a copy of Windows XP and ensure they run smoothly.
We currently could do with some spare components. If anyone has some parts not being used and just in a box or cupboard we would be really grateful for them. We can easily collect from people in London and Manchester - where we have offices. We also visit disabled people across the country and so could always pop in anywhere on our way past.
The sort of things we are looking for are:
- Processors at 1ghz upwards
- Any RAM – 128mb sticks upwards would be brilliant
- Copies of Windows XP and the serial key sticker (tall ask that one)
- Heatsinks - we won’t say no to watercooling kit
- Graphics cards
- Motherboards for processors over 1ghz
- Cases, power supplies, fans, cd drives, usb mice and keyboards, usb hubs, routers, dvd drives, speakers, sound cards, hard drives > 20gb
- Flat panel monitors any size
- We generally could use anything really
- Volunteers
Please visit our new website www.aidis.org for more information about Aidis. If you have anything you’d like to donate then please contact [email protected] and we’ll see if we can come and collect it.
If you live in London and fancy a trek down to Aldgate East tube station with anything spare, we can come and meet you.
Many thanks for your support
Richard
