So, ive got a shuttle just sitting here, what shall i do with it? for ages it was backup to my old pc as it was a bit "iffy" but now i have a new i7 setup that is solid its not needed.

So my question is this, what shall i do with it? i was thinking some sort of media pc, but i have no idea how to go about it?

What say you the overclockers community?

The specs -
Amd 6400 Black 3.2Ghz
Ram is DDR 2 and upgradable to what ever needed
HD at the moment is 250gig but again I will have a 500gig going in when i upgrade the HDs in my new pc
and the graphics is a 8800GTS 512mb

My thoughts are:

File server / Download Box
Media Streamer
Sell it
Cheap machine for children / a second PC if needed.

It's not an awful spec, and would be fine for most things.

+1

Nice small case, perfect for a HTPC - they're near silent too aren't they? so that should work :) pop a 2TB HDD in there (or 2 if there's room, can't remember) and a blu ray drive and away ya go :)

Its got room for 2 HDDs so could go for that.

How would you guys hook it up etc? would you stream it to other rooms in the house or just use it to store my media etc? and is there any benefit to not using my gaming rig to play movies/music etc other than freeing up space?

Thanks for the info guys

Space, power, heat.

It's hard to say as I don't know the layout of your house. If your PC is right next to your TV, it could be a bit pointless. Though a download box or better still, a backup file server (to keep copies of all your most important files) isn't a bad idea.

To connect, I'd recomend HDMI... not sure on the connections on your card though.

At the moment i have a 22" screen in my bedroom that i use for everything as my TV is a box and tiny! I like the idea or a backup server but i have a external HDD dock so no point really as i just turn it on once a week and drag and drop. im in the atic at the moment so heat is a bit of a problem in the summer, but planning on getting air con as i cant last another year in crazy heat! GFX doesnt have HDMI im afraid.

Thinking of getting the family involved as i know mum wants the i player on the family tv ill see tonight if there is any way of connecting it without wires to the kick ass TV downstairs.
