So Im visiting my parents and tried to use their laptop. It turns out being very bad and freezing pretty much everytime I try to do anything. Even when trying to run security check.
Im not very good with fixing anything like this so can someone give me a little advise?
Im not sure what I can delete aswell as it is not mine :/

I know this might be bit pointless but any help is welcome.

First thing make sure all windows updates are installed.

Start by doing clean boot for the OS on the laptop. Google "clean boot windows ...(XP,7,8.1)"
Run windows update -this should be under control panel. Install all important updates.

Next if Java needs updated do this also. Open a browser window and Google "test Java version"

Download and install malwarebytes free version. Install and scan system.

Download and install ccleaner - run the cleaner and then fix registry issues.

As for the anti virus I would uninstall it and install ESET smart security trial version. Scan the computer again.

I would also look at downloading PC Wizard to check temps as it could need a clean. I'm not an expert on laptops but usually you can unscrew the panels.underneath. Use a can of compressed air to remove any dust.

Finally run chkdsk (Google how to) to make sure your hard drive is ok.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Might be worth posting some info about the machine here. Age, OS. Antivirus, processor, ram

Larty has covered pretty much everything, but also check for toolbars, they are easily spotted in the ad/remove... my partners parents had 6 of them installed
